Infinity kappa 7 question

Hello fellow audio heads! Got somewhat of a problem. Recently purchased a set of Kappa 7's and one tweeter is playing a lot softer than the other. It sounds very clear and undistorted but just very quiet. My question is, could this be a x-over problem or something else. I have never heard a tweeter going bad sound like this. I would just swap the tweeters but there solder in and i really don't want to put a iron to these tweeters in fear of damaging the voice coil or element. If anybody knows where to point me in the direction that i need to be going it would be a great help! :>)

Well you can clip the wires slightly off the tweeter pads, say an inch back. That will protect the pads from heat and you can use some spring loaded test leads to make the temp connections. Final re-install will be soldered connections, but only wire to wire. You should swap tweeters from one cab to the other to see if the problem follows the speaker or the cab? Once we know that - we can start to look for the appropriate issue :)

Before going to all that trouble, it could be that the tweeter level control has some corrosion which is reducing the audio signal going to the tweeter. Try giving the level control pots a good shot of Deoxit, work the knobs back and forth for 4 or 5 minutes, and then see if the levels are more closely matched. This would be a much easier first step than cutting out and replacing a tweeter.
