Infinity Monitor II A

First off here's the CL link:

http://quadcities.craigslist.org/ele/2919957545.html

I called the guy and he said they are in great shape a few little nicks but still worthy of placing in a living room. He said they belonged to his brother and his brother wasn't the original owner, he also said they have a drink cup ring on top of them. Now. is this one of those "RUN GO BUY THEM NOW!" things? Or what? I'm looking for information on these (outside of my 20 minute google search) ESPECIALLY if you guys know anybody on here who has a pair, I wanna talk to them. :)

if the tweeters work probably but if not then you're probably in for a long search for replacements

If all the drivers work and all parts are original, you'd have yourself an excellent sounding classic Infinity. Back in 1975 they were top dogs at the local boutique and still sound wonderful today.
Uber bass, balanced, topped off airy highs from the Walsh tweeter.
Here's a pic of the original woofers as the ones in the pics seems to have an insignia on the duct cap(maybe).

by god they without a doubt look like they have an insignia on the dust cap. HMMM might be worth asking him for half but then again like kbott said it would probably be very hard to find replacement drivers due to their rarity. UGH!!!!! I have decent speakers... I don't need these do I? OR do I?!?! :scratch2:

Infinity replacement woofers probably are not that difficult to find as they were used in many models. If all the other Peerless and Walsh drivers work they are impressive vintage speakers. Take a multimeter to test the Walsh for continuity. Good Luck!

I was going to purchase them, but I have a 8 pairs of speakers I don't need. Good luck there's a lot of guys in the qc are that are interested I'm sure.

I'm in davenport.

Shoot I was just in the QC for my sons birthday last night. They are a pretty good speaker. I bought a pair at a pawn shop 2 1/2 years ago . It had Infinity replacemnent woofers from Harmon K.Which I was able to replace with originals. I think it is time to get the crossovers upgraded. After over 35 years?Lol.

The original woofers can be a tough find and may be pricey too but I think Infinity used them in another speaker or two. The Walsh cone drivers ARE the key as mentioned. Tougher to find and more expensive than the woofers. Again, at least one or two other lines used them.

I think you hear a lot more about their "cousin" vintage Column IIs. These do not use the Walsh, nor are their woofers(2 per speaker at right angles )doped. I think between the two more prefer the Column IIs . But I gotta go with the Monitor IIas.

This would be a steal if the drivers were all original and worked. A good deal if you think you have the patience and money to invest in acquring the originals. Cabinets look pretty nice.

I have the patience but sadly not the money. I was thinking of pulling something crazy but I just shouldn't. I'm graduating and need to save money. :( I still need a nice record player and cd player... i'm pretty close on the cd player but i'm dead set on a PL-530 I let a minty one go for $200 and regret it LIKE CRAZY. They go on ebay for double and is simply out of my price range. The guy was listing free no brand speakers with it and he just posted those for sale by them selves today so I think i'm SOL.... (For the best really)

Considering the non-original woofers and unknown status of the Walsh cones, Id offer him no more than 75$. Don't think he'd probably take though as it seems he is stuck on the relatively good shape of the cabinets.

It's all for the best.
Save up and Happy Graduation!!
Now for those in the general vicinity, the woofer in the pic look to say "PYLE":sigh: and it could be an illusion but the Walsh tweeter looks to be dented at the base of the driver..
The replacement woofers are common and easy to acquire and if all the drivers produce effortless un-distorted sound these speakers could still be worth the asking price. That rare 2" Peerless midrange is a sweet sounding driver:yes:
PS: Did I mention they are very good looking?

Hello, I bought those speakers last night. the subs have been replaced but the bass is tight. the Walsh Super Tweeters sound phenomenal and the dent in the WST is normal and may have happened during manufacturing because every picture I've seen online they almost always look dented.

These are the best sounding speakers I have owned. They have super highs, incredible. I have them connected to a NAD model 1240 pre-amp and Carver TFM-15 amp all this setup in my garage. I run it off my laptop.

He told me when I was there that he thought they would look good enough for inside my house but the cabs are in rough condition. I can describe these as a Gremlin with a 454 engine, they look like h*ll but can do a quarter mile in 2.3 seconds!

I paid $140 for them and I think they are worth every penny. They originally sold for $898 (priced on the web) but they are worth much less than the going price without the original subs but never the less they sound incredible.

Every component in both speakers work and sound great so I'm keeping them for now until something else better falls in my lap.

:music:

They are not subs, but woofers, or lf drivers. glad you like them. wish you luck on finding some original woofers.

Be nice:nono:
or you will not know where to find those woofers on Ebay, right now.

The Walsh tweeters did not come installed dented from the factory:smoke:

If by chance you are referring to the refoamed pair of 902-1187's that were listed............they are currently enroute to me.

:D

My monitor Jr's shall rise from the dead and take their rightful place in the rotation!

Now to internally debate weather I want to spring $140 for a spare pair of mids..............
