Infinity Quantum 5 - What are they worth?

I have been interested in expanding to some vintage infinity speakers. They are very intriguing and I've yet to hear them in any respect but I don't want to be too ambitious and over pay. lessons learned. The seller has them at $350 but I think that is too high. If I am able to talk him down what do you guys think is a good price for them. Cosmetically they are in good shape, maybe a 7.5/10. Not many pics yet on the cabs but a little oxidation on the dome mid range speaker.

I'm aware of the low ohm load from the Watkins woofers (dips down to 2 ohms?) and do have some concerns with this. Seller says he has roasted two realistic receivers on them. I would be powering them with a sansui au-9500 but I am not sure if I could power a pair of 8 ohm speakers at the same time with the Q5s and be safe doing so. If you could leave your opinions on their sound that would be helpful as well. thank you. :music:

I would not run more than the Q5's by themselves.
As you already know they are a fairly low ohm rated speaker.
Does the back (or the manual) of the Sansui give guidance for using multiple sets of speakers?

yes it does and I would be pushing my luck with a 2 and 8 ohm paired load. The Sansui does fine with Braun L810 (4 ohms) and any 8 ohm speaker I have. But The Infinity's I think deserve more caution. I'm still clueless on what is a good price for these. Not much info out there, I don't think they come up very often but these have been for sale for a while. Seller is waiting for me to get back with an offer, I guess I'll just through something out there and see if it sticks. :deal: maybe

I sold my pair of Quantum 5's for $450 plus shipping from Zcalifornia to New York. $350 is a fair price provuded the woofers are real Watkins and both voice coils are working and has been refoamed. Make sure the mids are in good shape and EMITs are working. You're talking about over $600 if parted out, so $350 is very fair price. Uf he takes $300 , that would be a deal. Make sure the grille actually sticks to the cabinets, it's a lot if little fingers that will grab onto each other, and badges are there (they are heavy and tend to fall off.)

The Quantum 5's put on a little riser with a slight tilt back are nice sounding speakers.

if he's roasting receivers make sure those woofers are original and that they are wired correctly. the woofers have 2 voice coils, each of different impedances (2 ohm and 4 ohm, roughly). If they are hooked up wrong, the impedance of the system will dip well below allowable limits.
