Info on vintage Klipsch subs...

Anyone know anything about the original models of Klipsch subwoofers?

Was in an electronics shop and spotted a big one in for repairs, did not get the model number but it had the nice oak finish of possibly the KG period.

I do not own a subwoofer, all the Klipsch I have is of the original Heritage vintage. But if I could track one down that somewhat matches that older look (i.e. something that looks like a "real" speaker with a wood cab, not a black cube!), I may be interested...

Okay, so that exciting topic generated exactly ZERO responses. So, when all else fails, I guess I have to do my own research!

Went to the Klipsch.com site and sure enough they have all their current and discontinued models listed there. So it looks like the KG SW and KG 1 were probably the original subs offered, produced from 1991 to 94. Looks like they came in the nice wood cabs too, so yes I assume they corresponded with the KG line of speakers which were the first line released after the "second generation" of what are commonly known as the Heritage line (i.e after Chorus, Forte, etc.)

So, more specifically... any opinions on the KG SW and/or KG 1 subs?
 
I am a fan of Klipsch but would avoid their subwoofers, especially the old ones.
From reading subwoofer issues on the Klipsch forum, amp failures seem to
be the culprit.

Technology has come a long way in 15 years.
 
Dale A B has it about right...most people would buy other than Klipsch SubWoofers of the older vintage...possibly until the higher Reference and the new Sub12 which seems to have distinguished themselves...other brands did it better soundwise...many of the older Klipsch subs looked nice though and aren't garbage...just that others did it better usually for less...

I have a Older Klipsch sub KSW 200 I think and have had no issues with it.. It's a 12" down firing 200 watt and it's 550 dynamic or peek watt's it's 80 lbs and about 18" square. Great for movies shakes the hole house. I never had a amp issue with mine and I think I got in in 1995.. George
