Integrated comparable to AU-717?

Kenwood KA-9100, Supreme 500/600, Yamaha CA-2010, Pioneer SA-9500 II or SA-9800.

All of these amps are dual-power supplies like the AU-717 except the CA-2010. Also, most have 100wpc at 8ohms and up and when you get to the Supreme 600 its 130wpc at 8ohms.

Just depends on what you like and hear.

Oh wait, were you asking about "Sansui" integrateds comparable to the AU-717 or just any integrated?

I was looking for another Pioneer integrated couldn't find what I was looking for. Ended up getting refurbed AU-717 which I like. A few months later a Pioneer A-88X shows up on CL. Like new and great price. So now I have extra/backup - lucky me.

So to answer your question: The Pioneer SA-9800 and SA-9100 compare performance wise. The A-88X is black face and compares performance wise and asthetically.

H/K twin powered receivers- 430/630/730/930 and Citation.

EDIT: oops you're looking for integrateds but these ^ have a following all their own and dual power supplies like what I think you are seeking.

I'm likely going with the 717 (which I have been hunting for quite some time), seems like the 919's are unobtanium around here. I love the old Sansui sound (having a few big-G's at one point), but looking for an integrated. Whilst it does not necessarily have to be Sansui I am leaning towards the 717 for this reason.

I am planning on refurbing a Pioneer PL-550 TT and perhaps running with a Denon DL-110 HOMC which I hear runs beautifully on the 717 phono. The 919 is obviously an upgrade in power and cart options but probably excessive for this particular setup.

I have had a Pioneer SA-9100 and a Sansui AU-717. Both were restored by a highly reputable tech here on AK.

I sold the Pioneer to a friend who really loves it. As he should. It's a great amp that has a sweet vintage look and sound.

The Sansui has much more modern sound. It has a slightly less warm sound because of it's detail in the highs and the bass is much, much tighter. The Sansui still has a warm sound though. It's about as vintage as I want my stereo to sound. You'd be very pleased with the AU-717 unless you crave an insane amount of detail.

Similar in output power is the AU 9900, or 9900a variant. Sound is a bit better than the 717 IMHO. AU 9500 also an option I would take if I was looking....

Looking at a Pioneer SA-9800 compared to the AU-717, the Pioneer's price is almost three times and is not completely restored yet...think I may just go with the 717.

If the question was like Iha1992 said, I will def say AU-719, hehe.

+1 on the 719, it will be very close to the 717. If you are looking at the 919 you could also look at the AU-D11 II which has similar circuitry to the 919 at fraction of cost. The 717 is a good one, but has a few issues stock, but most amps that old will have their own set of issues that need to be addressed if you want to daily drive. If you really want a good old Sansui amp with decent power and that laid back Sansui sound I'd be looking at an AU-999 and get a total overhaul. The AU-999 seems to be a good investment comparatively.

What speakers are you using and whats the size of your listening space?

Cheers,
Bob
