UPDATE : I read the notice incorrectly ! !....... the reversal of funds was cancelled ! ! The $ remains in my account !.....

Also,to clarify.Even though I got to keep the $. I followed up with USPS in Greensboro. Talked to two supervisors and was told they were going to speak with the carrier today. If the package isn't located,it would be referred to consumer affairs.

Wow! I guess the guy was really trying to pay half for something he hadn't received! That's a new one. Glad to hear about the happy ending.

Haha A happy ending!!! Right, or a bitter sweet end especially for the buyer after running his mouth ohh so soon. Glad it's all squared away

Not that it matters at this point, but the notation 'notice left', in my experience, means absolutely nothing. I've had several track and confirm items attempted delivery to my office by USPS on Saturday (no one here) and supposedly a notice was left. Out of perhaps 7 or 8 such instances it's really peculiar that not one of those 'notices' ever materialized.

Glad this turned out the way it did. Real horror story otherwise.

I think they just yell out the window of the truck " hey we were here with your package and you weren't "...

My USPS delivery person is great...not only does she leave notices, she leaves her cell # and says to call her, if its before a certain time, she will come back. Carries a pocket full of dog treats too.... Bear loves her..:pawprint:

Well postal workers are human. I think the vast majority are good but like anything there's a bell curve and sometimes you get the wrong end of the curve. Most all I've been exposed to have been very good, a couple have gone above and beyond.

Glad to hear it worked out for you.

I had a similar situation happen to me and months later a Postal Inspector called to get a taped statement from me on the scammer. Trust me it might take time but they will get their man!

I use the USPS for most all of my shipments, and always "ALWAYS" get tracking and insurance. They have always been very helpful when ever I needed it.

this has been interesting...Great read... congrats on your sucess...though it hasnt been in question on my end.... to the point you are saded jedi!

I still don't understand what the buyer did wrong?

He received a tracking number for an item he purchased that indicated said item had been delivered...when he had not yet received it.

I think most of us would have started some sort of claims process at that point. I'm sorry, but I expect to receive an item after I purchased it.

If anything it sounds like the buyer was exceptionally understanding and was willing to eat half of the transaction, and was only asking for a 50% refund. A really nice gesture in my mind and not one i would have offered. If I don't get my stuff, I'm getting all my money back.

After a week of mucking around, USPS finally delivers the item and StephenJ has his money.

I guess I just don't get where all the animosity towards the buyer is coming from. I can't think of a single AK'er that wouldn't be pissed if they paid for something and it didn't arrive...especially when the tracking number shows it was delivered!

The tracking number detail up to that point did not say it was delivered. It said "notice left."

If you read the posts, the posters were thinking the buyer may have still actually received it and buyer was trying to scam the OP.

If you can rationalize in favor of the buyer, people can rationalize in favor of the seller. When things go wrong there is a tendency to be suspicious and try to make sense of the situation by filling in the blanks. Many were made to caution the seller of the possibilities.

But it turned out ok. Frankly, I don't see any value in dredging it up.

Glad this is over and done with.

I once lived in a townhome that my letter carrier would NEVER deliver a package to - only left notices that delievery was "attempted". One of the more famous notices had the attempted date two days into the future. I made complaints to no avail until it really came to a head one day.

I was waiting for a delievery and this time actually watching the post boxes. After the mail was put into my box I hurredly went out and got my mail. Found my "attempt to deliever notice" and asked the letter carrier for my package. Now get this, he never even put my package on his truck! We had quite a few words and I held onto my "notice" and went straight down to the post office for another complaint. STILL DIDN'T DO ANY GOOD!

Now that I'm out in a rural area I have a great regular rout guy but have a horrible Saturday letter carrier. These folks are all done by contract to the USPS out here. Once enough complaints get filed then the contract is not renewed and hopefully you get a better one.
