Introduce me to step up transformers, please.

Howdy folks.

I'm curious about step-up transformers and somewhere I'm sure this has been discussed. I'm running one right now, actually, a Dynavector DV-6x step-up into a Juicy Music Tercel II (fantastic phono preamp, by the way), that I like quite a bit. Its different than the MC active gain stage in my Klyne preamp. Not better or worse, just...different. And it's a difference that I like. Even with the Klyne on MM and using a step-up, I think I like what is happening better than with the head amp.

But..I've only ever used two. This one, and a Denon which I think was the AU-310. I didn't care for the Denon, it had a grainy quality and sounded thin. But the Dynavector sounds really quite nice, but I'm not sure where it stands and so this is my question...

What does one look for?

The cart is a Zyx Yatra LOMC.

I've read a lot of recommendations for Bob's Devices. I think the Juicy Music Pre originally offered an option for a pair of those built in. But I don't have that option, the pre is just MM. I've seen old Altec microphone pre transformers. Are there different specs that indicate something will be a better or worse match for a given cart?

Again, I really like what I'm hearing now, but I don't have a context for where it stands except that it is much better than the Denon I tried.
