Canadian Bacon and Pineapple!

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-40230407

Sam Panopoulos, who has died aged 83, leaves a legacy that has delighted, confused and appalled diners worldwide. Often at the same time..."We just put it (canned pineapple) on, just for the fun of it, see how it was going to taste," Panopoulos told the BBC. "We were young in the business and we were doing a lot of experiments."

Hoist a slice in his memory this weekend! (But don't eat pizza with a knife and a fork. That's just wrong.)

Dang - hope he made some money from his taste sensation ...
Hawaiian Pizza is one of my favs, second only to Gyro-meat-with-feta for me!

Yeah,I know. Don't talk bad about the dead but...........
New Yorkers' take their pizza seriously. We're ready to go to the mat when anyone badmouths NYC pizza.
I'm sure Sam was a nice man, loving husband and great father. But all that goes out the window when he takes one of the simplest creations(dough, sauce, cheese, spices) and puts fruit, and canned no less, on pizza.
For those that love it---Bon Appetite!
If there is a after life, I hope Sam doesn't find himself in a brick oven, close to the wood logs, doing just a little penance for his culinary sin.

Rest in peace.

Haha! You guys are purists when it comes to pizza. Toppings are taboo, right? Which burough is the best?

I am Italian and I was born where the pizza was born. I would not eat the pineapple pizza but I understand that I can be appreciated by someone. Not all of us have the same tastes .In other words I do not think pineapple pizza is a sacrilege or a blasphemy thing. Enjoy your meal and sib tibi terra levis to Sam

No, toppings are not taboo. Mushrooms, sausage, pepperoni, oil cured black olives and for the more advanced taste---anchovies!
No cheesy crusts, hot dog crusts, inside out and upside down crusts. Thin or thick it's all good.
Some like it with chicken, some with salad, some with pasta on top. To each their own.
But for many of us, some things are best left un#*#+€} with.

Hearty appetite!

Thanks Sam and RIP :)
Love Hawaiian Pizza!
Forgive my culinary ineptitude but I was 18 before having an opportunity to try pizza . . .

But #*#+ing with it is part of the fun!

One of the weirder ones I've ever put together was one with smoked Arctic char, done on the grill. I know char pizza has been done in the north, but I don't think I've seen it done with grilled pizza.
I don't eat fish, but it got raves.

What's funny is that three of those toppings you mention above wouldn't ever be on a pizza I'll eat. Mushrooms, olives, and anchovies are bizgusting.:)

Deep dish hawaiian pie...homer sez drooool....cholestoral sez Noooooooo!
RIP. Thx for sharing.
PS. Wonder if canadians use real p-meal bacon on it instead of the ersatz ham slices we get down here...that might be True Heaven.

People are free to eat whatever they like on their pizza. As a resident of New York City, I am fortunate enough to have better options, and as such, remain Hawaiian pizza free.

I love religious battles - does the olive oil not come in a BIG can (like in the godfather movies),
and is the tomato sauce made fresh from (Italian) tomatoes grown on the roof, and is the cheese
made and aged and shredded on Mulberry Street, and is wheat made from real Italian
semolina imported from Northern Italy just above the Abruzzo region. Am I more or less
Italian if I eat either Hawaiian or Little Italy pizza.

if we simply enjoy the music then let's enjoy the food.

as my Italian friend tells me (on another topic) - you no playa the game, you no maka the rules.
