iPod Touch

Well, I broke down and got an iPod Touch. I needed a digital planner, other than a phone, and the Ipod touch has that and more. Email, wifi, and many other features. The only thing is the EQ sucks badly. I went to the Sony line a few years ago because of the better sound quality (even in flat mode).
If I wasnt so into cans and headphone amps I probably wouldn't have noticed, it just irks me.

Either way the applications on this little guy make up for its lack of sound staging, maybe one day Jobs will focus a little more on the primary function of the iPod line.

Uh, he has and it ain't audiophile sound

Millions of young folks have portable music at a quality THEY deem acceptable to great. The niche audiophile market is being served by companies like Wadia and Etymotic who produce high quality products that push the envelope.

FWIW, I've had a Touch for over a year and love it. Just got done playing it in the car via a cassette adapter and it sounds quite nice to me. Sine qua non of audio sound, no, but I've got 795 songs in my pocket that sound very nice on the road.

Well I dug out my mini 3 cubed by AMB and it gives the sound some justice. Left the eq on the touch to off. Much better.

I'm not looking for audiophile sound quality from my portable devices but that would be a nice improvement. Regardless the Touch is the coolest gadget I've ever owned. I would own an iPhone if I could justify the cost.
