Is it worth restoring a 2270?

I have access to a 2270 in good condition, dirty inside but its free. It needs work and at austin stereo here in Texas they said they could recap it and replace any neccesary Transistor etc. deoxit/lub for around $350. If I choose to keep it for a while then sell it would I get my money back? Just curious.

I've had good luck with repairs over at Mr. Wizards on N Loop. As far as I can tell, the owner, Mark, is a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type (as am I), so he might be reluctant to recommend a complete refurb. But I can vouch for him at being very good at getting electronics up and running again. 'Nice guy to deal with also.

I have no experience with the crew at Austin Stereo but hear that they do good work.

Good luck on getting that fine Marantz (in my opinion, the best looking of all the 22XX) up and running again!

Yep I always wanted a 2270. I compromised (but not much) with a 2275. I don't use it any more (it's in the garage under plastic) but it served me well. Good looking, powerful, reliable, flexible operation.

Get that thing out of your garage and put her to use..If not send it my way...I could put it to good use...:thmbsp:....lol

Well I am not averse to moving it out of the garage and having it in the hands of someone who will appreciate it.

That is one fine sounding receiver by any measure when in fully operational condition. I wouldn't think it would need $350 to make it operational. A full restoration is probably not necessary to enjoy it. Just get it safely working, listen to it and then make up your mind whether or not to fully restore and keep it or not. Either way, I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised by it's sound. Marantz 22xx receivers are so sweet.
