It works fine.... until I crank the volume a bit.. then every once in a while it cuts out. I know Im not pushing it past what its intended, Im not even talking 1/2 way on the volume knob..It does seem to be getting a bit warm.. any suggestions? This happens using either phono/aux/tape doesnt seem to matter what the input source is.

Thanks

Hi, this would be best posted in the Yamaha forum. This item is not a tuner so will not get the attention in here that it would in the Yamaha forum.

sounds like the amplifier part of your receiver is the problem ..not the tuner .. but maybe it is the tuner .. have you tried other inputs ?

It might be worth cleaning the pots and switches as a first troubleshooting step. You can get some Deoxit from RadioShack for doing the cleaning (people recommend Faderlube for pots because of lubrication issues, but you could Deoxit now and see if that improves things and order faderlube and apply it once it arrives).

Cleaning pots usually entails opening up the unit, finding the cylinder corresponding to a particular knob, looking intelligently for an opening (sometimes the openings are big or even just completely open), spraying the Deoxit into it and then turning the knob back and forth a number of times. Sometimes the openings are on the underside. Sometimes, as on the Kenwood KA-7100, the pots are sealed so you have to delicately drill a small hole to be able to spray into it.

Cleaning switches is similar, but openings are not always as obvious. Just do your best. Work the switch a number of times after spraying.

You didn't say which speakers you use with it. It is possible that this receiver just cant handle the load.

By cutting out, does the protect relay " click" when it cuts out?

No.. the sound just quits for a few seconds and then comes back.. If I turn the volume down a bit.. it does fine.. but.. I was trying to listen in the back yard while I had my coffee haha!! SOME music just begs for higher volume ya know?? Quadrophenia.. Boston...... American in Paris.....

You are most likely just pushing the amplifier beyond its limits. Try cranking it with just a single pair of speakers.

Hmmm..:scratch2: Does this unit have a multi-national voltage selector on the rear panel?
