Is this CD player worth that much?

Hmmm, I doubt it.
But, it is silver faced so it would look good with 70s vintage gear.
I really wonder if the transport and DAC is worth a darn compared to the things that came later.

Little lost here? You own a Arcam 73t and a Mission PCM2, both which are probably equal if not better. Why the Pioneer?

Not interested in the Pioneer. But I know this particular model is highly sought after by several die-hard Pioneer collectors, and even by some AKers.

Remember, the series 20 is far more valuable and rare than the Elite.

In my best Seinfeld voice, "Really?" I had never heard of the series 20. Is that before they came out with the Elite components? Sort of like the Spec series?

You never heard of "Series 20", really?! Yes, late 1970s foray into the High-end by Pioneer. Pioneer recognized that the name "Pioneer" had to come off to appeal to the "discerining ear" crowd. The Series 20 hardware was really nice stuff.

The P-D70 is the first CD-player designed and built by Pioneer itself, so therefore it's a collectors item. Especially since it's complete with packaging and manual some collectors might feel it's worth it. In terms of performance I feel that ever cheapass DVD-player produced today might be better.

The advantage is the silver face in early 80's style that will blend more with vintage systems. I just had a guy ask me yesterday if I had any silver face cd players...

The cd tray on that is solid aluminum. It's quite heavy, compared to the typical CD player.
I bought one for $5, played it for 2 years and sold it for $300.
It is vey collectible. Some folks will pay big bucks. The sound is quite good.
Don't pass, if you have the chance to pick one up.

I found mine at the GW for $9.99 about four years ago. Still works great and I like how it looks with my MTF SX-D7000. I wouldn't sell mine for 200 bones as they are pretty hard to come by in great condition. On the other hand, I wouldn't buy one for 200 bones either as there's better sounding CDP's out there. Probably attractive to only someone wanting a vintage silver Pioneer CDP. :dunno:
