Is your gear collection in your Last Will & Testament?

I don't plan on dying anytime soon, not just yet.

But as I've recently danced quite a jig with my mortality, I've been thinking about who gets my gear if I end up taking that very long dirt nap.

Just in case. And by the way, I don't want to see any of you waiting at my door tomorrow with a shovel or anything. :nono:

As my record collection is very personal and meaningful to me, I'd prefer to not have 'em sent off to the trash, but off to friends who may enjoy them.

If not for carefull planning, my speakers would surely be stacked up and sold for a few dollars a pair, at best, by my family. Except for my Design Acoustics PS-10s. They'd be hollowed out for my mother's cat.

My amps and tuners would make the neighborhood yard sale at $5 to $10 each, at best and with wishful thinking on my part. Pity I couldn't return to take one of 'em home to my new home in heaven, hell, or purgatory. I think Jesus would dig a Yamaha 810 and my ADS as they are truly "heavenly". His dad would go for the classy Marantz 1060 and maybe the EPI 100s. Satan is licking his chops over my Black Sansuis and my Cerwin Vegas, but cursing me for not buying JP's HPM 100s.

But I'd rather avoid all that.

How about you? Have you thought about where your gear goes when you go?

Birddog would be getting something, as would my friends Marybeth, Laura, Robin, Amber, Melody, my friend Jenna and her husband Steve, Jeff, Jesse, Bobby, Derek, my niece Honour, and her father Kent, who's my brother in law.

A list of others, too is in the works.

But how about you? Will your kids get them? Would your wife want them? How about your father? Your brother? Your nephew? your mistress?

Will you take 'em to the grave with you?

Will you be wearing Grados in your casket?

Will you be buried in a Bozak Concert Grand?

Will your tombstone be a granite carving of a Magnepan? Carver Amazing?

Will your hearse need to be equipped with Boston Acoustics and a SACD player playing a SACD copy of DSOTM?

Have you thought about it? Any of this?

Do you care?

Do you not care?

:scratch2:

You bring up a very good question. One which I have had with my wife. I have very few materialistic things that I am attached too. Of those items my audio gear ranks either #1 or #2.

While I have no maternal children of my own I have been blessed with a wife that has three wonderful kids. I feel as though they are mine and take pride in all their accomplishments. And I have helped setup systems for all that wanted them. And I don't belive they will need nor probably want any of my gear once I am discussing why those damn Cubs can't win a World Series w/the devil.

With that said I have given my wife instructions that if we are not in a Thelma & Louise type ending, that she is to contact someone here @ AK to help her setup a way to sell off my baby's with the monies going to this site. Just want to make sure AK is around for as long as possible. And bring to others the laughter, information and :jawdrop: experiences that I have had so far.

I say this not for any applause, thank you, brownie points or any other type of recognition. I just can not see my Thorens TT's being handled by a guy with a cheeseburger in one hand while trying to place the arm on a LP w/the other. I would definetly do the ole casket spin. And I know that any member of this site would treat them with the respect that they deserve. Not to mention enjoy the beautiful sounds they can produce.

And hell someone might even get the Sansui AU-555a working right again. The only thing that I will take with me is this damn Denon DP-47f that I can not figure out why it will only spins backwards :scratch2:.

I guess the bottom line is that I would just like for someone to have the same joy (and frustations) that my gear is giving me. It makes for a great stress alleviating tool. That is my current plans for my gear and I can not see it changing in the very near future.

I only have one bud that's into tubes, and he knows what to do. We both know where each others "mad" money is hidden as well :D

I'm planning on haunting my many enemies, so I guess I could rattle some chains in the closets of anyone who pitches my gear.

Thanks Thedelihaus for the kick in the butt, as I am of the age and health where my mortality is in plain view. My wife has asked me several times to make a list of my gear and where/how I want it disposed. The net market worth of my stuff is probably not worth the effort for her to try to sell it. The most marketable, at least to me, being the recently professionally serviced Yamaha CR-2020, the Spica TC60's and the Wharfedale W70D's. So my sons and brother-in-law will get first refusal then I will have her contact someone in AK for the rest.

No, not in my will!

My wife don`t care much for it so I guess it will be given to Goodwill. Maybe someone from AK will buy it. Or my youngest son may sell it on eBay.

I really enjoy what I do have but to worry about what will happen to it after I`m gone? I don`t think so.

I want them to play the Piano Exit from "Layla" at my funeral, or I shall come back & haunt everyone...my gear, guns, cars, I dunno...Somethin' to think about, though, isn't it ?!?

The will says that my wife gets everything but, my daughter has dibs on the Klipschorns. Even still, I'm sure the vultures will circle "Dear Ole Auntie Jo".
I can see those cretans now with my 300B amp or Mark III take-offs plugged in and on: "What's this big blue thing do?" Then they'll join me and I'll know I didn't make it to Heaven.-(

Great choice! I want Mott the Hoople's "Rest in Peace"...the live version with that soulful, gassy organ solo.

Something to think about!

My wife thinks all of my receivers, integrated amps, tuners, speakers etc. all cost $40 or so bucks each! :D

I hope it all doesn't end up at the dump!!

I'm taking it all with me. They will run 110vac to my casket, and load up the CD changer with six of my favorite CD's, set on Random.

It's all I will have left. My wife has already said she will sell my saxophones.

Seriously, anything (stereo gear and musical instruments) family members don't want will go to local school bands.

What if they load the changer with ABBA disks...... it's something to think about.

Then he'll come back & haunt 'em, just like I will, if I don't get the Piano Exit from "Layla"...BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!

My six year old Daughter recently said to me, "Daddy, can I have your 'record player' someday?" Choked-up, I said, "you bet baby." She then went on to add that she would need some of those big CD's to put in it.

I always say that I need to wright this stuff down. Now I have.

I was thinking of those old milk commercials... "It's beautiful here, there are giant cookies, but I keep on hereing 'Fernando', ....maybe... this isn't heavin"

Wow, I knew there would be a great rock band in heavin. Jimi Hendix on guitar, Jaco Pastorius on bass, Eddie Cockran is the front man.... but, wait... is that Karen Carpenter on drums?

If you're not a fan of KISS, you probably wouldn't want to be caught dead in one of these:
