It might be time to invest in a dash camera

Because of other asshole drivers.

I went to town today, and almost got hit. I don't even drive that much, especially lately because of my health problems, and the Covid BS, and it still happens several times a year. Guy tried to merge into my lane. No turn signal, just started creeping over. I had nowhere to go as there was a concrete barrier on my side. I slammed on the brakes and got on the horn. I swore I heard sheet metal crunching.

I immediately floored it, got in front of the asshole, and forced him to pull over. I started looking at my vehicle, and was cussing to myself. I forget what I actually said to him at first. Trying to intimidate me, he puffed his chest and was like "What'd you just say to to me?" Like a lunatic, I yelled, "You need to learn how to effin' drive, you idiot!" He jumped back in his rusted out Pontiac and sped off before I was even done looking at my vehicle.

I didn't notice any damage, but it still pisses me off that I scrubbed rubber off of my new tires when I slammed on the brakes.

Glad nothing serious happened.

I got tired of cell phone users drifting into my lane. I bought a camera to protect myself in case of an accident.

It must be karma because ever since I put the camera in, people are not in my space nearly so often!

Count your blessings the other guy jumped in his car and took off. The outcome could have been much worse for you had he called the police, or worse.
And what would the cops have done? I had a witness with me who saw what had happened. Was I supposed to let someone who I believed hit my vehicle just go on their merry way? No, I don't think so.

They could have tried, maybe. I doubt it would have stuck once I explained what happened.

Fortunately, I guess, we'll never know. I do, respectfully, suggest refraining from that aggressive behavior.

The key difference is the other driver can simply say he didn't see you. You, on the other hand, acted intentionally aggressive and in threatening manner toward the other driver. See the difference?

No, not really. I don't care what he would have said, it's hard to not see somebody towards the front of you that you almost just broad sided. When I receive aggression, that's what they are going to get back, probably worse. Especially, when they were the one that screwed up in the first place.

Whatever. Maybe next time I will be the one to call the call the cops to save the next idiot the trouble. Better to have them in my corner from the start.

When I receive aggression,

I dont think doing something by accident can be classified as aggression.

I know i have screwed up many times in my life in such away, (going into another lane) you get honked at and move along, I give others the same courtesy as I am pretty sure we have all done it.

i would have engaged you in further hostilities.

We just have to calm down.

I would have pulled in behind the guy and started to follow him for a ways.

If you'd captured that incident on video, it would only have been used against you.

Smart lawyers will tell you never to relinquish your data card to the cops. But what if the cops demand it? Obviously you can say 'no' but they don't like hearing that word from the citizenry.

In my case, if a vid clip from my car were played for a jury, and they heard the language I use behind the wheel, I'd be headed for the slammer for sure.

Video of someone following another motorist after a near miss is pretty 'iffy' in terms of helping the video taker out of a mess.

Especially if audio is captured of the 'victim' yelling and cussing.

Jinx.

In the majority of Asian countries, drivers have a camera in the front and the back. Youtube has thousands of bad driver videos on it, many of which are Russian and are a good laugh to watch. Of course, camera systems over there are probably pennies on the dollar compared to here.

Confirmation, but it doesn't say why dash cams are cheaper in Russia.

No, I meant when the guy puffed up his chest and tried to intimidate me. That was aggression.

That's the point. There wouldn't have been an incident if I had a camera to record what happened. I wouldn't have had to force him to pull over. I could have just let the camera capture his plate number.
