It's A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

HomeBody

Passion not Critisism
My Fav vendor up in Vancouver just messaged me on some goodies that just came in...
And I just landed (hopefully)the sweetest deal for the living room:D
Realistic STA-2600
I've read great reports on this unit's tuner....and 100 wpc to boot:smoke:
I know, I know, its digital. But I've had this model in the back of my mind for months now. And I've missed a couple of opportunities. And the others I've found were off my budget at present-

I can only take so many blessings in one day.
Now if I can remember where I left my Nitro bottle...I've definitely got to go lie down.

Oh, the pain.....

Howdy, HomeBody..........I HAD a Realistic receiver that looked just like yours, but it was all black......I believe it was a 2380........have to check the catalog resource to be sure......

Anyway, I only used it in my storage room, with a rough pair of JBL L-100......

It sounded GREAT......... a very nice unit....the main (Channel) display would come in and out when I tapped the unit......I'm sure it was bad solder joints on the board the display mounted to..........

I lost it, and too much other stuff, at the first of the year.....too painful to go into.........

My comment.........It's a really good unit....wish I had it still.......I miss it.......I think you will enjoy it.........another Radio Shack triumph.........

I'm crying now...............Enjoy yours........willhowl:tears::tears:

Seems I read Ed Hanlon's remarks about this unit- suggesting the readers keep the soldering pencil at hand....I'm not gonna sweat it. In fact, I might just embrace the idea of stripping it down and search/destroy any cold joints or questionable joints.

Well, I got her home, plugged her up and all is good w/the world.
Bass is very detailed in the mid/upper area...tight and punchy down under.
Not quite as airy as my 2080, but that was to be expected.
44 FM stations clearly captured....
Super clean- I hit the knobs w/rubbing alcohol.
Discovered it is an 'A' model- which I discovered was labeled to designate the correction of bad solder joints.
Yippie-

THat's a handsome unit, I liked those when they came out. I certainly wouldn't pass one up. It's a nice example of a transition piece between silver and digital tuning and the move to black components. Nice grab!

:thmbsp:Good job.

This unit needs a cabinet-

Have one exactly like it sitting on a shelf in a closet. It has a problem with the loudness switch though - seems to add bass when in or out, cutting to normal when the switch is partially depressed. Never fixed it. Does yours do it?

Negative. The only issue I've found w/the unit to date is the scale of the power meters. At my normal listening levels, looking for twinklin' lights, the Machs are getting loud...and it does prefer the Mach Twos over the Mach Ones (to my ears)-
Also, I discovered a ever so slight 'tubby' overtone w/this unit from the M1s...I found I had to turn the bass down 2db-
But when running the unit w/a 12 band Realistic EQ, the unit has the classic Realistic sound....
Mach Two low end repros were simply astonishing, however.

Warm & Tingly-

^^ chubby. Good description for the RS sound. I always found their receivers to be bassy, but not objectionably so. :thmbsp:

I got the unit torn down to examine the internals.
Only found a micro-thin layer of dust. A simple wave of an ostrich feather duster and she is as sterling on the inside as the photos of her outside reveal.

I think I'll keep her.
