JBL 125A Recone Options

After refoaming one 125A driver successfully, I find the second was trashed after someone's failed attempt at a refoam. The spider is separated from the frame and the coil barely moves.

I am looking at repair options. Who can I send it to for a recone? Anyone on AK here? I might tackle it myself if I can't find somebody. Or Should I buy a replacement off ebay instead? Should the other driver be reconed to match if I do find a person to repair original? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

JBL doesn't sell recone kits to individuals, so DIY would be with an aftermarket kit.

These guys claim to be able to do it with a 127A kit, not sure how close that is to a 125A kit. Then you'd possible have a mis-match with the other woofer, too.

If the coil is just stuck with goop (some JBL drivers had foam pole vents that would deteriorate and get stuck in the coil gap) and not damaged, you might get away with just cleaning the gap, re-gluing to spider, and refoam if the cone itself didn't suffer during the previous attempt.

Thank you for that reference. The coil is shot- bulging and burned wire. The spider and leads are cut. I might have to live with a mismatched cone and coil and get it repaired.

I recone those all the time. Virtually indistinguishable from original, though doing them in pairs is recommended.
