JBL 2420 as Cornwall super tweeter ??

There's this guy who has a couple of JBL 2420 compression drivers hanging around. This guy is in the final stages of rebuilding a set of Klipsch Cornwall's. The original whooooffer will be in the line up. For the mid range:(the bad ass) K-55-V with new diaphragms coupled with tractrix horns for a touch of elegance. Piloting this infantry will be a newly constructed, steady flying B-2 crossover (Via the honorable Crites).

here is my question for the thinkers: Does the JBL 2420 have a place in this unit// can it be coupled with a tractrix horn.v. It's original horn was the exact opposite of a tractrix horn, in fact, it was directional.../ laser-beam directional.

1st of you will need an adapter to hook up the 3 bolt Jbl driver. To the screw on thread of the Klipsch horn.
Do you know what Diaframs are in the 2420’s?
Aluminum or Titanium?
The 1” Jbl’s are not too happy playing as low as 500 cycles. It’s why I used the Large format
Altec 288’s and Jbl 2440’s in my KHorns
they play quite happily with the right horns at 500 cycles.
If you can grab a Pair of Radian Diaframs a more durable and less Harsh alternative for 2420’s, they will out perform the Klipsch Drivers. Imho
The next problem will be Crossovers? Biamp if you can and adjust them to where they sound best. Are the Crites Xovers for a 8 Ohm Driver or 16? Match the correct impedance. What is the crossover point? In the Crites?
That will tell you what Radian Diaframs to order
Save the Original Jbl Diaframs they are expensive! There are so many variables!
Good luck with this project .

Agreed.

Get back in your lane! ;)
There is another option
Jbl had a 2470 Driver and another Le100
With phenolic or non-metallic Diaframs that were more for PA
Use. They can be pushed to much lower frequency. Seeing as you have Tweeters any way.Perhaps some one saved a pair when swapping them out .
Byw you haven’t even mentioned trying out the Far superior Jbl Woofers.
May as well really piss off the Klipsch team

The 2420 was made back when specs were taken when driving a tube, which doesn't correlate to any other specs when a driver is radiating into a anechoic chamber or attached to a horn radiating into an anechoic chamber, It was a weird time for JBL. Altec and EV finally raised so much havoc JBL had to start measuring their drivers like every one else did. That was in the late 60's and early 70's as I remember, but it could have extended on into the 80's. I would contact Bob Crites and get the correct updated tweeters and crossover parts from him.

ok what about this line up

JBL woofer (2216)
JBL mid w/tractrix horn (2420) new diaphragm
JBL modified (no center) built tweet ( or just the driver) new diaphragms (2402)
or MAHL (Nashville Dave)

crites b2 xover

I have all these parts I just would have to do some research to find out if the crossover points lineup with the B2 that I have.

I guess my main question is would this be a significant upgrade rather than using the components from the original CornwallI
