JBL 4301b I scored a nearly mint pair. PIC. Tell me about them.

Nice find!

I've grown very fond of the JBL studio monitor sound, very natural and smooth.

Those blue fronts are nice to look at as well.:thmbsp:

I had a pair of L19s which use a similar driver compliment. Really enjoyed those speakers. Really excelled in the mid-bass area. I recall bass guitar was really impressive. Love the blue faces.

Nice find! I would have snatched those up in a heartbeat! I own two pair of JBL studio monitors now and have had a pair of the L-19's in the past. I'm gonna predict that you'll be listening to the JBLs more often than the others in your collection.

found a pair of these at the local GW for $8 or $10 a few years back, maybe i should give a listen.

I'm surprised you've had them this long and haven't listened to them. Quite nice sounding. Besides the sound, I love the physical size of the cabs for an 8 inch woofer.

It is a nice sturdy cab. quite deep, mine still had a wiff of that new JBL smell, nice! ,think mine were built in 73

I'm not sure which year these were made. What are your serial numbers?
I'll check mine, this may give me a clue where mine fall.

GD Those are in excellent shape!! Congrats!

Give them a wipe down with alcohol let dry over night and then wipe 1 coat of danish oil (natural) on them and wipe of the excess. That is what JBL finished them with.

I still have mine. They were my first "real" speaker when I was growing up!!

Congrats on a great find. If you want to update the crossover search over at LHF for a post from Zilch about charge coupling them!:thmbsp:

Not glue or epoxy, just some old wide masking tape glue residue. It's not really sticky, almost hard and dried out. I'll try a small bit of alcohol and see how that works. I know acetone will work, my concern was staining, like water marks.

Thanks!

Glue residue removed. Gently scraped it off with an xacto , then final wipe with a bit of acetone. Much better. Next is to get some Danish oil for them.

Great Score!

I have a couple pair waiting to be restored. How do the cabinets look after the Danish oil?

PIC's before & after oil application

The Danish oil really brings out the beautiful wood grain. The JBL's really needed it. Soaked it up like a sponge. One application.
Here's pics of before & after.
Before.

One done.

Both done. The bottoms of these cabs are amazingly free of scratches.

I also did my AR-4x's.
