JBL T-20 vs AR 4ax

NO question.

AR wins.

I like the JBL speakers but those dang titanium tweeeeeeters are really harsh on the ears. over all the sound from each one compliments each other but over all the 4ax sound much less harsh and more balanced.

JBL T-20 are great but IMO don't compare to the AR's.

Are you sure they are "T 20" never heard of that one but you never know.

Now if you are talking the 20T then you are comparing a 6" woofer to an 8" woofer.

Lots of people here love the AR's though. So if you like them that is what's most important.

A little EQ like a cut at 8k though and the JBLs will cover more of the frequency spectrum, more dynamically, just sayin'. :)

Yea t-20. Really harsh. sound great from 8-10 feet back though. AR's still smoke em for overall sound quality but together they shine a lot. If I had to pick between the two (which are pretty much the same size) I'd take the AR's.

I'm not giving them up though...just like the AR4x better.

T-20. Huh. Chinese or US built? Photos? I hate to say it, but I'm picturing something kinda oogly.

I use AR4x as my computer station near field speakers, and you can listen to them for hours at a time. Jazz really works on these. I keep coming back to them even though they aren't nearly as detailed as my EconoWaves.

Yea the AR 4's are just easier on the ears. I like them together. It cracks me up how butt sore these JBL guys are getting here. No they are not from China they are from California in a nice cabinet. I love em but just not as much as my AR4's

Don't you mean JBL L20ts. Two way JBL, mid to late "80s. Pure Titanium tweeter (the legendary one) 6" bass?

AR 4s probably have more "range". But that JBL tweeter is NOT harsh. I have one in my L80ts and it performs very well with good sources of amplification. Detailed, fast, and clean--more so than the highs on the AR.

But, I do agree that the AR is a more balanced sound. However, the JBL is only a small bookshelf and is "wonderful" in that class. Unfair comparison.

As would be the AR against my L80ts below. They wouldn't stand a chance. But the 80s are a 10" three way tower!

Have fun!

I honestly don't care; plenty of people prefer ARs to JBLs. You know, the whole East Coast - West Coast debate? I'm just trying to figure out what model you're talking about.

and if you bypass the pots on the back of the ARs, the high end improves a lot.

When I listen to my 4408's with my SX-980 a little harsh on the top is right. When I use my MC-602 not harsh at all.
