I have just solved the last DLNA/UPnP hurtle I had audio wise with jRiver that is on the fly transcoding of FLAC, Ape, and .m4a (ALAC) files to WAVE so my Onkyo can play them, it does none of the lossless formats. It is just a set of simple settings but I had to be navigated through them over at the jRiver support forum. Absolutely outstanding sound. If any of you have a DLNA enabled AVR please do yourself a gigantic favor an try out jRiver. The big thing with jRiver's is I have total control of the Onkyo in DLNA mode from the PC in a regular windows environment. Even with the on-screen display from the Onkyo it's native DLNA controls totally suck!!!!!:thumbsdn: With jRiver it's simple mouse clicks just like any other such player. I am playing the very pleasant OST to the Anime series Hiru no Hoshi (Fractale) 2011 (music composed by, Souhei Kano, Azuma Hitomi, Noriko Lewis, and Ayako Nakura) encoded in FLAC. It is so crystal clear playing it in this way, great sound stage the bass is strong but does not intrude on the female vocal track. Comparing this with the brand new Sound Blaster Recon 3D sound card only using its Toslink connection the sound not nearly as clear and it cannot be tweaked into any improvements. I am so glad I didn't spend a great deal on money on this Sound Blaster card. The bottom line is if you have an AVR that has a DLNA mode and it has not worked out very well give jRiver a try they have a 30 day free trial. I am only reporting here about the DLNA network connectivity of jRiver it does so much more.
