Just came back from a garage sale

Bradhart doesn't have a long history here but he does have over 40 posts, and after reading a few, he appears to be a sane individual. He must be laying low waiting for the camera to get back, or for the wife to show him how to change the batteries. I can't stand it.

I bet this is going to be the most replied to post ever as soon as old Bradhart posts those pics! We can't wait to see all that McIntosh gear, so bring on the pics. We can't stand the ANTICIPATION.........no more!!!!!!:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Brad

I know what you mean, worse than waiting for..Well hurry up!

MAC find

who does not have a digital camera these days or a camera phone? After the initials post he faded away I hope I am wrong but..........................:boring:

What!!!!! No pics yet? Maybe there wasn't enough memory on the digital camera to load any pics. Perhaps after moving that mountain of McIntosh gear, it may take weeks before Bravehart is able to muster up enough energy to stand up, let alone take a pic.:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Brad

I for one am a person without a digital camera of any sort.
I would also like to see the pictures.I do not however find the story outside the bounds of credibility.
If I was the person who was the lucky recipient of this good fortune and was reading the blustering taunts on this thread,I'd have great pleasure in watching the kerfuffle and going back to contentedly listen to my newfound system while the donkeys brayed. :smoke:
I wouldn't blame the original poster if he never posted proof,or even never came back to AK again.
If the story is true,he is having the last laugh at all this, that's for sure.

I gotta wonder about this. What kind of truck is he driving and what kind of house could this stuff possibly fit into? A single McIntosh ML-4C is the size of a refrigerator and about twice the weight. With all those speakers and hardware you'd think you'd need a blimp hangar.

Perhaps we were a bit harsh on Bradhart. If his story is true he gets the final laugh. Of course, if he posts some pics, he not only gets the last laugh, he gets apologies from those of us who poked fun at the lack of any credible proof. That's one reason why many of us post pics when we find an incredible score. We've all had fun poked at us in the past for no pics. We've all had some pretty unbelievable scores, but this one would take the cake. Brad

Just a thought...

This thread is a good social experiment.
Has anybody tried to PM the guy? :sigh: It may very well be a case where he is totally unaware of what came of his post (perhapse he logs on to AK once a week or two?) - and a PM will come up on his normal email.
Come to think of it, I'll do it. :thmbsp:

You make a very good point legaleagle. Also on that same token bradhart did say he would be back with pics next day or something like that. For a topic like this you need to let the waiting know whats up.It all makes for good fun discussion anyway.

Reasonable doubt?

Reasonable doubt? I sent a PM to the guy:
"forum readers wish to see some photos of the great gear you scored, and have more input from you on it. Will you post pics or give some more input?"

Got a reply"
"sorry to take so long to get back to you, I have been in the hospital since the day after I got it and am not moving around much right now. I will eventually get pictures but nothing until I am more mobile."

U B the judge::thumbsdn: or :thmbsp:?

Deserving of the benefit of the doubt I think... Besides, whether this did or didn't happen will only really matter to him in the end. If it did, that's great, if not... it's still a good story.

I see your score as a gift from the father to someone who would appreciate his gear.....namely you!! Clearly his kids never expressed an interest in his obvious appreciation of real Hi-fi gear, hence they do not deserve to benefit from it's sale!! Karma is a bitch, and clearly this kid gloating over his inheritance and blowing $10k on crap that won't be worth $20 in 5 years is his Karma for selling what was clearly an important hobby to the father. You don't own gear like that unless you are seriously into it. I still own my father's Marantz 2250b. He was very proud of it, as was I until I went Mcintosh gear, but I would never sell his stereo....it is a family heirloom.

You got a gift from a fellow audiophile reaching out from the grave so treat it as such. They got what they deserved...call me bitter, but if you don't appreciate the passions of those around you, why should you benefit from them.

Most people have no idea that vintage gear has value. My uncle gave away his entire 1960s high-end Marantz system, with scopes, because a tube blew. (Except, he kept the Marantz 10B). Wish I was there when he gave that system away.

After my uncle passed away, I helped my aunt clean out the basement. The first thing she said was to put those big old speakers are the end of the curb for trash pickup. I saw the JBL logo, so the speakers went in my car. I spotted a set of large Tannoy speakers. (That will be a different post, coming soon.)

Then she asked me if I wanted my uncle's old radio. I politely declined, since I don't listen to FM. As I drove home I thought "hmmm, radio, I wonder what radio she was talking about." The next time I went to my aunt's house to help her clean up I asked her about that old radio. When I saw what radio she was talking about I carefully wrapped it up, found a large box and put it oh so carefully in the car. It was the Marantz 10B.

Stuff like this "garage sale find" does happen. Not audio related, many years ago, my mom gave way my 1940s mint Coke machine (my grandfather owned a grocery store and this machine was never used.) She was so happy to get it out of her basement, and was proud that she made $2. Plus she gave away, for free, my 1960s first edition comic book collection and 1930s-60s baseball card collection. She said they were all in plastic, so I must not be interested in them anymore. Well over $200,000 worth of stuff given away.

happythecat,
I feel your pain.
In the '70s,my mother tossed my collection of surf mags. While I was traveling of course.
Let these posts be a lesson to all of us:
Tell your loved ones before you pass away(or travel),that your collection is valuable (both to you and in it's own right).
Emphasise the point.
Make sure they understand, because we see this situation played-out time and again. :tears: :nono: :thumbsdn:
An individual with no understanding of the true value of the item(s) involved, giving them away or selling them for a song(in the last instance, mostly to facilitate their speedy departure),because they had never been told of the item's rarity and esteem.
Of course there is always an individual who knows the item's cherished nature, and is(out of sheer 'bloody-mindedness')hell-bent on seeing the item they despise, for what ever petty reason, banished from the household.
There is very little that can be done about the last example.
