Just how smart can cats be?

Here's a good cat story. Our old cat "Puddin" was mine before I married my now ex wife. Puddin would come into our bedroom every morning and wake up my ex to be fed. She would paw the ex's face and meow.Well the morning feedings started getting earlier and earlier slowly until the ex said enough and started closing the bedroom door. Around this time the ex and her sister wallpapered our family room walls with some god awful pinkish flowery wallpaper. I hated it but what can you do.
Well one morning I went downstairs to the family room and here "Puddin" had systematically gone around the entire room and shredded the wallpaper. Talk about payback. I had a good laugh, the ex not so much!

I've been buying them these little mechanical mice you turn on and they take off on the hard kitchen floor. They love it. If you leave it alone it will go in sleep mode.

Doesn't work on carpet unfortunately.

I realized that the intelligence of the cat can be improved if you interact a lot with him/her...They learn to understand you better and viceversa.

Actually, that are smarter than we. They train us yet, get us to think it is the other way around.

They are smart enuf not to mess with my Dookie Dawg. Cause if they did they would quickly find out he would run from them.

Lol! A guy I worked with in NJ had a cat, a dog and iguana at that time. The cat and the dog both learned quickly not to mess with the iguana. One swat of the tail was all it took.

Got some bonding time with mine lately. The female is really beginning to enjoy my company.

Poor Kittie. She has been stressed. With these feelings cats we have been trapping and have been kept in the house until they could be picked up.

So, we have been a little more lenient with her. Yesterday she jumps up on the sofa intl the left seat and settled on my robe and slept most of the day. This morning I removed the robe and put a clean old Town-shirt on the section. I left the robe on my side of the couch. I later walked in the living room and saw Kittie had pulled off the top-shirt and it was on the floor and was taking the robe off my side of the couch. She did not see me so I just watched. She got the robe off the couch, there is an arm rest and my receiver sits on other so she can not just pull it over. She then dragged it to "her" side and while gripping a sleeve in her mouth jumped up and started using her claws to pull, the robe up. She got enough up that it stayed and she immediately settled down on it. As she settled she saw me and from her look was questioning what I was going to do. I simply walked over and petted her gently. She quickly started purring, laid her head down and her eyes closed. Guess I need to substitute a dirty shirt as I need my robe.

My now deceased cat Kees was sharp as a tack...the vet was told it was a good thing I had noticed a problem - urinary tract filled with crystals, and ammonia levels in his blood already.. Another hour or two and he would not have survived.

A cat I had many years ago, Bunky, did a similar thing. Bunky was very smart and not very vocal. One day while I was in the kitchen with my back to him, Bunky let out a fairly loud meow. I turned around to see him sitting in front of the cat box. He looked at me, looked at the box, then back at me. The message was quite clear. He couldn't pee. Rushed him to the vet, who found crystals in the urine tract. Like your kitty, Bunky would not had survived for long without "telling" me something was wrong.

A family of cats! I love it! :thmbsp:

my girlfriend has a stray she adopted and he's a 20 pound jet black killing machine named sampson. she even put a bell around his neck to at least warn the soon to be departed and the kills that showed up on the front porch only got bigger, along with the bell collar next to it. she tried keeping him inside and let's just say he got a little frustrated with that..(a couple broken lamps, #2 in the tub, etc...). she has another cat who gets my vote for dumbest cat alive and he's strictly an indoor cat, but he managed to get out and went missing for three days until she let the black cat out and he had him home inside of 15 minutes headbutting his legs behind him like a border collie. there's nothing specific that he does but he's definitely the smartest cat i've encountered.
