The search continues for a low cost decent sounding CD player. I came across the series of compact units put out by JVC. The reviews seem good but I thought I'd check with the forum for feedback. I'm not sure what the difference between the SD5, SD& or SD9 is except speakers and LED/LCD colors. Thanks.

If you're looking for a CD player why not buy just a CD player? Are you actually looking for a small "system"?

That information is going to be hard to find, unless you can track down their respective user manuals. Also look at Teac and Yamaha, as they have made some nice "micro"-systems over the years.

I can confirm that the jvc systems you mentioned are very good for the price. Very well balanced sound with good detail. No real low bass as you would expect but just a pleasant, honest sound.

Fired up the JVC system for the first time. The motorized door and the amber lights in the spin chamber gives the unit eye appeal. With the stock JVC 20W 4 ohm speakers it sounds good with very good clarity and separation. So far so good.

Here a forum thread on these JVC speakers. JVC on the right. Pretty positive comments.

I'll admit I didn't know what I was looking for. I researched suggestions from the forum and what I've got so for I've posted.

The only important thing is that you get/got what you wanted.
BTW: Those JVC speakers are cool looking. Their looks remind me of some JR speakers from years ago. The JR's were well reviewed.
