I am looking for a tonearm, needle and cartridge for a JVC QL-Y55F model turntable. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have found sources for purchasing a cartridge & stylus, but still need a tone arm. The stylus and cartridge are quite costly so I was hoping for a better option.

Welcome to the AK turn table forum.

That turn table comes with either a straight tone arm or a S tone arm in the used turn table market.

Originally comes with both tone arms "pipes", headshells and both counter weights.

You can use either one, my preference is for the S tone arm. :)

Let me read between the lines, you have the the servo arm without an arm tube, and want to get it up and running so
you want to buy a different arm and a cartridge?

If thats correct I would pay the $$$ for an arm tube, the only caveat being you need to find someone
willing to test [with another arm tube] your servo arm for defects before committing to buying one.

AnnaH. I have the same table and 2 straight armwands. It took me forever to find a second armwand and I had to buy a defective Y55F to get it and it wasn't cheap. How did you acquire this deck without one?

Welcome to AK.:)

Try Ebay.com. Keep a look out for a tonearm pipe there. I have in the past used their email service, which if it sees a new listing for something, such as “JVC tonearm”, will email you a message, and I’ve found obscure turntable parts which I’d previously grown tired of fruitlessly searching for over several years. However, they may not be particularly cheap. It also seems that electronic messaging has forced up the cost of conventional mail services over the past few years, so delivery may cost a bit, but the good news is that tonearm pipes are relatively small.

The cartridge is less of a problem – you can fit any budget half-inch mount magnetic cartridge, and get reasonable audio, until you can afford a better one. Audio Technica’s AT92ECD (a ‘universal’ cartridge, nominally p-mount with a p-mount to half-inch mount adaptor, which won’t be a problem) or AT95E cartridges, or Ortofon’s OM3E or Omega cartridges, are some of the best cheap cartridge choices currently with better-than-cheap sound, which can later be upgraded with a much better stylus, for better sound.

Welcome to AK. It's a very informative place. If you become a subscriber you can post a WTB (want to buy) ad under Bartertown.

JVC made some excellent turntables. The one you're looking at has excellent specs and features. You can download the owner's manual and service manual from VINYLENGINE.COM. You have to register but it's free. It's a wealth of
info.

Good luck!

I just bartered for a QL-Y55F with both arms. I prefer the S arm with a Shure V15 :). Nice deck happy hunting.
