JVC QL-Y55F Thoughts ?

Nice looking pics. Did you get the user's manual when you picked this up or did you download it from VE ? Very different process to set up the arm balance with this deck.

From VE , good thing they had it . You are right in it being different but easy once done . Don't know if I could of figured it out without the manual for guidance .

Nice looking deck! The removeable headshell on my Y3F's S-shaped tone arm makes cart swaps quick and easy. Old early 80's JVC's are the biz! :thmbsp:

After acquiring a JVC QL-F4 (much lower end than the Y55F), I have to admit it's a really good table. Smooth and the most quiet table I have when using it fully automatic. Excellent table, I would buy another JVC table.

Is your led speed lights out??(under the auto lock )

No the 33 and 45 light up just didn't come out in picture , I used the flash .

The only problem now with the Table is the manual override button is inop . All the other buttons were a little bit funky , like they were stuck from inaction . But after pushing on them abit they came free .

What could one use to break up the crud holding the button from moving ?

Had thoughts of using some Deoxit in the needle dispenser applied to the opening around the button . Or even some WD-40 but unsure if this is advisable .

Anyone else had this kind of a problem with a table ?

Came with a Shure 500S in need of a stylus , it was a P-Mount with an adapter . Put a old AT P-mount cart on it for right now while testing it's functions .

Have a few Shure's 1/2 ( M75 , 91E & 95 ) or even a couple of Grado's sitting unused .

Will just have to see what sounds the best after the first of the year . My ears like the Grado carts on my other tables so far .

Hope you get your TT soon like would to see a pic of it .

The 2 shure's that play nice on my Y7 (97xe ,v15 iv)didn't like the grado green on that but you have a different arm on yours.Yea I was looking for a Y66 or even Y55 but got a great deal on the Y5 which does have the same arm as my Y7 which is a plus with cartridges .

Yea I wish that both arms were with the table , been back to the GW to see if it was also there . No luck yet .

Now trying to get the owners name and call them . But of the two the straight is the one I'd of preferred .

I might get a new stylus for the Shure 500S and give it a try .

If you haven't already read comments regarding the Jico SAS replacement styli for either the M91 or M95 take a look at some of the comments. The improvement over the stock is really unbelievable. I use the M95ED with the Jico on the QL-Y55F and without a doubt it's the best I've experienced within the budget I wanted to spend.

Did you figure out how to adjust the square weight with respect to it's 3 stops? The manual is a bit vague.

I've got a QL-Y66F that I bought new back in the eighties and am still running it. The tracking force, q-damping, and anti-skate will act up sometimes if you don't move the adjustment wheel knobs around from time to time. My tone arm was smoothly dropping onto the record then abruptly losing (or gaining) tracking force and bottoming out . At first I thought the suspension on the cart had collapsed but it was OK. Then I thought one of the chips inside the table had finally given up. I was about to write my old friend off and on a whim I turned the tracking force wheel back and forth a few times and everything went back to normal and has stayed that way for almost a year now. My old friend refuses to die, it just wants a little attention every once in a while. I don't know for sure but maybe a bit of contact cleaner would help with this. Enjoy your JVC, I'm certainly still enjoying mine. One other thing, these tables work very well with LOMC's.

Sam,

I've experienced the same thing with the Y55F. I thought the same thing at first about the cantelever, but this happened with 3 different carts,so it was back to making certain the arm wasn't the issue. I've balanced it several times and it will stay put for quite awhile and then bottom out. It's nice to know that it may just be the wheels that need excersizing.

Have read the comments but never heard one .

My only experience with Shure is with a OEM or unknown maker replacement stylus . Tried the M91 on my 6300 but ended going with a Grado Blue .

Took awhile but seems to be correct . You are right in the SM being unclear at least for me to understand .

The table would not lift the cart up enough to clear the LP . It would catch on the edge it allowed to go all the way .

First thing I did was the zero adjustment per SM and it took care of that problem . I believe it to have been messed with at the GW because all the settings were off and the weight was all the way in .

Now the only thing left to fix is the manual override switch or button is stuck . Auto works just fine so far and I'm not wanting to open it up just yet.

I was wondering what you used to clean your rosewood deck and top lid?I'm going to work on this Y5f which just came ,its not too bad but has light scratches on the deck and top lid.

Lemon Pledge on the lid and distilled water on the rosewood both with a soft lint free rag .

I would like to see a picture of your table and see what the difference between the two are .

I bought mine new in Japan in '82 or '83. I will never part with it:music:
