KEF b110 replacement

I've recently picked up a pair of home made transmission line cabs based on the kef concerto and similar to the Cambridge r50, they are made to a high standard and have the crossovers and a couple of sp1044 woofers all working as should but no mids and tweeter.

I've got the tweeters sorted but I'm struggling to make my mind of on replacement mids, b110's are not going to happen due to price so I've got my eye on either monacor sph-135tc or the 135ad.

I'm not sure which way to go as I think the TC looks better on paper but I would have to wire the dual voice coil in series which would leave.me with a 16 ohm driver where a 8 ohm should go, I'm thinking the extra efficiency of these newer drivers would probably make up for the loss due to impedance but I would like someone to tell me I'm not crazy.

Thanks for the link and as you say I think that looks to be a better woofer than the monacor but the ones I've found in the UK are more than twice the price and I think I will go the 16phm resistor route and see how it pans out bud.

Also the repro b110's are definitely out of the budget for this project as they are steep lol.

On the Falcon Acoustics web site, they also have the Monacor MSH-115 as a replacement for IMF and TDL midranges. They aren't cheap with shipping from England but they ARE cheaper than the new B110s. Plus if they don't know, who does?

Thanks will check them drivers out, shipping isn't a problem as I'm in England bud so may be a good shout although they have to fit the same cutout as the b110 to keep it today which has limited me.

You'd want to put a 16 ohm resistor in parallel in order to properly load the crossover network.
What makes you think the 135TC is better than the 135A/D?
You could modify the crossover so it works with 16 ohms instead of 8 ohms, but with either driver the crossover would have to be modified to get the same (or similar) performance as a B110 because the parameters won't be the same. A 16 ohm resistor in parallel with the 135TC will make it look more like 8 ohms but it will dissipate as much power as the driver and still won't make it perform like a B110 with the original crossover.

I've just done a bit of reading up and seen that from what I find people seem to prefer the TC over the ad mainly due to its greater power handling and Xmax, as for the crossover well it's a KEF dn12 so definitely not anything to write home about and if I like them once set up I will be purchasing a new pair of crossovers from falcon acoustics.

Power handling and Xmax won't be so much of an issue if the drivers are being used as mid range rather than bass/mid range.
Will Falcon design crossovers to suit a different driver?

Yes I think they will do and you know I never thought about that and it's deffo a mid only as the sp1044s take tare of the bass, I will call falcon and see what they advise as the best option other than their own b110's.
