Kef Coda 7 Vs C15?

Hello,

I am looking for a bookshelf or "big" bookshelf speaker and specifically at Kefs.

After reading a couple of posts, I'm a bit confused as to how to compare the Coda to the C-series, and more specifically coda 7s with C15.

My "gut felling" is that the Coda 7 would be more modern (90s Vs 80s) and generally superior, but after seeing both speakers for sale at very close prices I am in doubt... :scratch2:

Also looking at a pair of C30, which would actually be more in line with my target speaker size, but at 200$ I feel they are over-priced.

Thanks for your insight on this matter!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Coda 7's are a mediocre speaker. It's surprising KEF had the gall to put their name on them. The C30's you refer to, are way over-priced. I've owned lots of KEF speakers. I've never paid more than $75 for a pair of C30's, so this seller you mention is dreaming in technicolour. The C30 is a decent, but not great speaker. Part of the budget KEF line, the boxes are pretty well-buil and the Audax tweeter is fairly good. However, overall you can do much better.

If I were you, I would look at something older and better in the KEF line, something that precedes the C-series. In fact, even the older KEF Codas are much better than either speaker you are currently looking at.

OK thanks for the bubble-bursting. I am really not familiar with Kef (yet).

Does the Coda II qualify as "older KEF Codas [that] are much better than either speaker you are currently looking at"?

Yes, the Coda II is a better speaker. Nice tri-mount woofers and a good soft dome tweeter.

If you want some decent newer Codas, look for some 8's and don't pay more than ±$85 for a pair in at least 9/10 condition. Stay away from the 7's or 9's.

Guess I need to pull out the JBL L1 s again. But these seem quite good compared to some of the things in the market. I never want to dismiss something. That's just me.

Wow, I just was fortunate enough to obtain a pair of Kef Coda 7 for 15 with cabinets in rough shape. I cleaned them up and wow they sound excellent!! For a speaker under 1 foot tall they provide very heavy bass and a warm sound. Really enjoy listening to them and very surprised. They are also easy to drive as they have high sensitivity.
