Kenwood KA-701

I picked up a Kenwood KA-701 integrated amp on the way home from work today. Pretty nice looking piece and it sounds good. Did the usual stuff before hooking speakers up (checked DC offset). All was fine. It has a function that I am curious about, I can choose between DC coupled on or off. I am unsure of what this does. It seems to make no difference in the sound. Can anyone offer any insight?

My KA-907 has the same thing. I believe engaging DC Coupling eliminates a "coupling capacitor" from between the power and pre amp that would normally filter out frequencies from, say, 20 Hz and below. Engaging that switch gives you frequency response from 0 Hz on up. If you are wondering if you can actually hear a difference, yes, you can (with good equipment). Ejfud and I have both heard it.

Nice feature.

Enjoy your new amp! I love the Kenwood sound from that era.:thmbsp:

Thanks. I have typically not been a big fan of the Kenny stuff except for the looks but I really like the sound of this one. It may be because most other before it were lesser units, but as I said they all look pretty damn nice.

That switch made a difference when we had Aaron's amp hooked to my Paradigm Studio 80's. Me like.

I have this one hooked up to some lowly BA T1000's. I picked them up from some loser at the NC AK gathering last weekend :D . Hacked up foam job on the woofs :D :D .

HEY! I resemble that remark!!!

Maybe if you listened to it on some good equipment, you'd hear a difference! Not those sh*tty gray boxes you're so fond of...

Only because of a bad paint job... why don't you get some Bose or HPM's for some real speakers...
Hey now.....I resemble that remark (HPM 9 hunerts):D
Careful Jason the solid state thing can be addicting......

The KA-701 is one of my favorites too...I haven't had a chance to compare it to the KA-907, but they're at least distant cousins...the KA-907 being the flagship amplifier from Kenwood during that period of time, while the KA-701 was right in the middle.

Now all you need is a matching KT-815 tuner, and you've got my avatar pic!

C'mon, you know how many SS receivers I've got. I am past addiction.
