hi guys im going to recap my kenwood ka 9100 this weekend i know its not going to be fun but i figer it would be a good weekend project

i got the power supply done last night it was not fun at all but i recaped the the right and left channel im move on to the tone controls next then the meter circuit im not replaceing the main caps the right and left channel was a pain to you can barly get the soldering iron it there to desolder them

I did a total recap on a KA9100 a few months ago and it was not fun. You need to almost dissassemble the entire machine to get at the tone amplifier boards since they are mounted to the back side of the front panel.
It can be done but do not rush the job. One piece of advice do remove the two driver boards to recap them. It is tempting to try to recap them while still installed in the amplifier but it is very difficult to access a few of those caps. Bite the bullet and take those two boards out. Also while the driver boards are out you should put new conductive grease on the TW100 devices and also replace the two trim pots on the driver board. Bourns makes some real nice 25 turn pots that fit in there real nice.
There is however a great reward waiting you after you finish the recap.....that Kenny sounds sooooo sweet when the work is done.
Do a search here on AK any I thinnk I posted a few pictures.
Good luck and again don't try to complete the job in two days.....takes more like three.

thanks seadzz for the info i just got the front face completly disasemmbled it was a night mare i got all the tone controls visable now im going to take pics and try to post them im going to take my time on this one i cant beleve how much is in the front control curcuits man they cramed everyting in the front where did you get those adjustable pots

I used Bourns 3299Y from Digikey. They are about $2.75 each. You will need to bend the leads a little to match the three legs into the old hole pattern but its not a big deal. They are about 200% better than those OEM pots.....those purchased in volume had to cost Kenwood about 10 cents.
If you are still working on that front panel I can share your pain. My deal was even worse, after I recapped mine WAF went down the tubes and I had to downsize my audio collection. Sold that Kenny....however there is a bright side, a fellow AK member bought it....and loves it. If you plan on keeping that 9100 take your time and don't get discouraged, only a very few AK members have been down the path of recapping a 9100 so you are part of an elite group. Its such a daunting task that even EW has not undertaken it....and he owns two of them.

Heh heh, I don't know for sure how much alike the 8300 & 9100 are, but I've discovered that the top rails of the chassis will unscrew easily, & give ya quite a bit more access room. :thmbsp: I got sidetracked from that, with my h/k 75+. Just got her Deoxed today. :yes:seadzz said:

Real fun wasn't it? Once finished you will belong to a very elite club. Few folks have tackled a recap of a 9100 and lived to talk about it.
I figure it takes 20+ hours to do the job....not including the ah @#$%^ that happens once in a while.
Really sweet sounding amp when its done.....keep your chin up....its worth the effort.

:thmbsp: got done with the kenwood today and man it sound 100% better than it did it was a pain but it is worth the effort that is for shure im getting ready to work on a kenwood ka 9150 i got in i think its got a bad ta 100watt chip bad and those are hard to find but the kenwood ka 9100 it sounds amazind and after the caps break in it will sound even better
