Kenwood KR-5200 doesn’t come out of protection

I have a nice KR-5200 that powers on, but it doesn’t come out of protection. I removed the protection relay and took the cover off. It moves and I’m wondering how much voltage it takes to make it work. Can I turn it on and measure across to points to check on that? Can I solder it back in without the cover and manually trip it?

The relay is a 24 volt DC relay, but that is usually not the problem. Most likely there is something wrong in the amp, and the protect circuits are just doing there job, or there is something wrong in the protection circuit.
First, check for DC on the output (not at the speaker terminals, as they aren't connected until the relay is energized.). On this amp, it is pretty simple - the middle two output transistors have the output voltage on the cases (Collectors). the other two cases are connected to the positive sup[ply, for reference (or in case I have it backwards....)

Thank you Steve. I'll have to take a look at that manual. I'll probably have to solder the relay back in.
