I know a lot has been discussed about Sansui AU-717's and Kenwood KR-9600's but I just inherited the later from my uncle. I ran them into my Pioneer HPM 100's, cue'd up "wish you were here" and it was, well, moving. Now I don't know what to do, I have matched in my Sansui AU-717, with a Sansui TU-717, Sanuse AX-7 Mixer, Sanui AT-15 timer, and Sansui SE-7 equalizer, all rack gear. Now I am second guessing my labor. Any thought swaying opinions?

you need a Sansui turntable :D

and keep the Kenny too!

The KR-9600 has unobtanium Power Pack outputs which if they blow will make the most beautiful door stop ever. Local collectors have told me that getting the offset down below 80 mV is impossible. Not confidence inspiring, IMO. Keep the AU-717 system.
 
Styx, I did just that, I put the rack unit away for a bit. I now have my Rega 3, my Kenwood and my Pioneer HPM-100's. I must say the space looks a bit empty except for a 21 inch 50 pound monster. Thanks..

I like the Kenwood gear and have a KA-8150 and matching KT-7550. A while after getting those, I came upon a Sansui AU-719 and a TX-517 tuner. It got me thinking about my Kenwood loyalty. The x17 tuners are a very good tuner. How is the big Kenwood with FM?

The Kenwood is pretty good for FM , however, I do love my TU-717, performance and it just looks good. I will play with this Kenwood for a bit, my uncle is happy to hear that I am running it, he bought it new in 76 or 77. I purchased one of those Yaqin tube phono stages and thought it would be here today. Read a lot about them so I thought I would give it a try and see what it does between the Kenny and my Rega.

Good decision. Hey the extra space puts the focus on the Kenwood.....as it should be. :D
 
Keep everything and periodically rotate your gear. I made the mistake of letting stuff go in the past that I should have held on to. Now I rotate the units I have and it's fun to make the change and hook up stuff.

The Kenwood is a five-gang unit so it should be exceptional, me thinks. The TU-517 did a lot of things right, for me. Either the TU-517 or TU-717 could be all that one ever wants for FM, IMO.

Sounds like you're going to have some fun with the phono stage and your Rega. I have never used the phono inputs in any of this gear but would guess the Yaqin will out shine them. Let us know what results.
