Kenwood KT990D Losing Its Memory

I have a Kenwood KT-990D. It seems to be working very well except that it does not retain the last station tuned before Power-Off. I've had this tuner for several years and it worked fine until about a year ago. I've been too lazy to dive into it before now. The station preset memory function works fine.

I have the service manual but it doesn't include the schematic. I'm wondering if I should execute the microprocessor sequence?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Not familiar with that specific model, but a lot of audio gear from that era use a supercap to support temporary memory when unit is powered down. If your units only problem is temp memory, then i would check into it. Ive seen several Onkyo units where temp memory was the only problem and the supercap was at fault.

Good suggestion. I recently had a McIntosh MAC4275 with that problem. I'll take a look. Any pointers on ow to identify a supercap without the schematic?

Usually located near the ICs that require temp memory. They are rated low voltage and 1 Farad or more (not uF, but full Farad), they basically function as rechargable batteries.

C6 2200uf 6.3v cap on the processor board. Probably only give short tune memory retention. Could increase the value for longer retention. Manual available at Hifiengine, but says no scat. Scat available from electotanya.. Google foo.

I replaced that cap with the same size (I didn't have any larger) and it appears to be working properly. I suppose I should replace all the rest of the electrolytics...

Thanks for the assistance.
