KLH Model 20 speakers question...

I found a pair of KLH model 20 speakers in really nice shape at the Salvation Army today for ten bucks. How do I go about converting it from the single RCA plug to regular stereo speaker wire? These things weigh a ton, and I love the look of them!

What's wrong with the RCA plug? I'm sure you can solder in some RCA jacks on the end of your cable. I wouldn't fiddle with the cabinet unless you were opening it up to recap.

I agree, I have a pair of them too, and i have a male rca with the other end stripped and spliced to speaker wire. Works great, just make sure to keep polarity the same for both speakers. They are wonderful speakers, aren't they?

The only thing is, they were mated to the Model 20 compact system. That was their intended use.I wouldn't know how to compare them to a stand alone model.

They compare very nicely to "standard" models, they're just 4 ohms. I have them mated with a vintage Kenwood integrated amplifier, the combination is a stunner.

Umm, I feel like a total moron. Duh, speaker wire with rca ends spliced on them! I was very tired when made this post yesterday, really I was! haha thanks guys!

Just find a pair of RCA speaker cables, cut the RCA plugs off of one end and strip the wires.

The KLH 20 speakers are similar to the KLH Model 17 that were sold as standalone speakers.

KLH Twenty speakers indeed are same as KLH Seventeen speakers but with RCA connector instead of binding posts and 4 Ohm woofer instead of 8 Ohm, giving about 3dB extra bass response (I read it on the internet - music be true). The Seventeens were sold as stand-alone speakers; the Twenties were sold as a set included with the KLH Twenty tuner/turntable combo. (search Google images)

When I recapped my Twenty set, I replaced the loose RCA with a new one and added binding posts for use with real speaker cables:
