KLH Model 23

Picked them up for $40 with some decent stands. Cabinets are pretty trashed and I suspect the the drivers and
crossovers are untouched from new. Covers and badges are nice. I gave them a quick listen and shelved them for future rainy day service work. While not spectacular they sound pretty nice. Are these desirable enough to consider re-veneer?

I guess I need to sign up with photobucket to have a look at all those pics

Not sure whats going on, I was able to see all without that about a mounth ago?

Do a little more research here on AK as there is more info about refinishing and also these are super easy to replace the caps and dope the surrounds.

A careful sanding and some Watco danish oil (medium walnut) did wonders for my cabinets.

If you want to, go for it. It's not worth the money, but as a fun project, sure. KLH 23s are REALLY good speakers, and will outperform a surprising number of vintage and modern speakers.

The crossovers will need new capacitors--I'm pretty sure they're 4 uf 50v or so. The woofers most likely don't need re-doping. If the tweeters are dead, it's likely either crossover caps or a wire corrosion issue. Don't toss them if they don't play.

Don't push the woofers too hard with bass-heavy music, but otherwise, have fun.
