KLH Model Seventeens with Weird XO

boreas

"If it sounds good, it IS good." E.K.E.
The speakers seem unmolested and the XO looks as if it was always like this. This is my third set of Seventeens and the first two sets had the same XO design as that in the Model 6 and in the Seventeens specialidiot restored in his thread. These on the other hand, have a single (tiny) 8uF 50v NP cap per speaker. I don't think it's a late change since I believe these fall in between the other two sets I've owned and both those sets had the usual XO.

Meanwhile, without looking inside, I ordered the same assortment of caps I've used before. Oh, well! At least I can use some of them.

Has anyone ever seen a Seventeen XO like this before? I know that the Twenty-Threes use a single 4uF(?) cap so I guess there's a precedent with KLHs. Also, does anyone see any reason to redo the XOs in the same way as other Seventeens?

Thanks!
John

I had a pair where the other caps were mounted on the front baffle for some reason, out of sight.

I would do them the same as your previous Seventeens. Drivers original?

Looks like someone's been in there before you.

Never mind.:sigh:

What a dope! I found the twin 2uF cap hiding under one of the sand casts. Combination of its small size and my bad eyes.

Thanks anyway. :screwy:

Yeah, I think some Sixes had that arrangement. Wouldn't surprise me to learn they did it on some others.
