KLH tweeter question

I have a pair of KLH Model Sixes that were my father's -- they have one blown tweeter.

I just picked up a pair of KLH Model 20 -- I want to extract the tweeters for use in the Sixes - they look the same.

My question are they the same tweeter? I know the 17's, and 23's aways get mentioned, how about the 20's?

KLH 6s & 20s tweeters

Yes, I believe the tweeters used in the 20s are the same as the tweets in the 6s.
 
The Model 20 is a four ohm version of the Model 17, but as far as I can tell, they use the same tweeter (the DCR is the same for both) - only the woofer is different. This tweeter is also used in the Model 5, 6, & 23 (and possibly others that I'm not at all familiar with). - Mark
 
Tafsound posted this in another thread and he has my respect as being quite knowledgable on all things KLH (among other things), FWIW:

"KLH 5, 6, 17, 20, 23 & 33 use the same tweet."

KLH tweeter addendum

KLH 7 & 12 can also be added to the list of models using the same tweeter. But, forget about the model 7 'cause the tweeters were epoxied to the baffle board -----same as very early model 6's. :yes: Dave
 
I have trying to find a pair on ebay, but lately they have been pushing $30 -- too much!

$9.95 at the local thrift store is perfect! The crappy technics next to it are priced at $50 - go figure.

I guess you could say I was a boy -- I usually refer to my self as a registered stud, but whatever ;)

R u sure the tweet is bad (ohmed out)? Old KLH's r notorious for junk caps. I'm sure you tested since you've already pulled everything. I've got Twenties that have bad caps but I'm struggling with the idea of buying new ones against the value of the speakers themselves. Decent caps will run about $20 and the speakers are only worth $25 (and I paid $13 fer 'em). Since I did not buy them to keep--my investment plus fix-it cost will run more than I can get back for them.

My only choice is to part them out. Cones look like new, cabs look great, x-overs with plates and switches are stock and work.

Let me know if you need anything for cheap.

Well mine are a sentimental project. I paid about $20 in parts, new switch, caps.

These were from the 70's - so they had electrolyte caps - and they tested okay. The speaker that works was very muddy on the highend, so I thought a recap was in order.

I will likely reveneer these at some point as well. My mother put a couple nails into the cabs through the years as its primary purpose changed ;)

I kinda feel bad parting the 20's -- they are in fantastic condition - but 4 ohm, and with rca input. Perhaps I will reuse the cabs sometime?

klh tweeters

i have a pair of curtis mathes 2 ways w/8" and tweeter i relieved my father-in-law of.these are circa '83 and the tweeters were fried. i also had a pair of klh bookshelves that were gathering dust. i put the klh tweeters in the cutris mathes and they sound great.
