Koss Pro 4AA's Refurbished!

Just thought I'd mention that I sent in a pair of Koss Pro 4AA headphones to Koss USA for a refurb... Outstanding work! These things are basically like new headphones now. It's incredible that they are still providing warranty work on this model. They basically changed everything on them... head foam, ear cushions, new cord, protective inner screen.

These headphones really sound nice for vintage headphones.
All it cost me was the shipping there and a $6 check for return shipping.

If anyone has a pair of these laying around somewhere don't hesitate to get them done. It's definitely worth it.

Kudos to Koss for continuing the work on a classic headphone!

Sweet! My dad had a set of these when I was growing up... I may hafta see if I can borrow them from him when we go visit my folks... ;) The ear cushions were flat as long as I've been alive.

This applies to all of their cans?

I picked up an early set of Pro-4's awhile back and have been wondering what the next step might be.

Damn! I threw away my Pro4AAs back in the '80s because of a nasty short I couldn't fix.

There is a cutoff on their lifetime warranty work, I think it's somewhere around 1990.

I should have specified, not looking for warranty just factory refurb.

Shux...why not just drop them an e-mail describing your problem ??
Probably give you a quote if they won't fix it under "warranty".

I loved my Pro4 and 4AAA of long ago. Thinking about getting a 4AA or AAA off E-bay for old times sake. :D

Wonger how they'll stack up against my AKG's ??:scratch2:

The cut off is 1989. They don't really work on the 4A's as far as I could tell.

On paper (their webpage) you're right, but they don't seem to care, at least on the Pro 4AA. I recently sent in some 1978 vintage 4AA's and they refurbished them completely for $6, shipping included. Fantastic customer service.

Last time I looked into getting my two pairs of Koss refurbished, their return authorization thing online had a ton of questions. How did you go about sending yours in.

I called their contact number (1-800-USA-KOSS) and spoke to the gal who told me what to do. She seemed totally disinterested in the vintage of Pro4AA that I wanted to send in. I don't remember filling out any web forms.

Sweet. I'll do that tomorrow. My Porta-Pros have a busted headband and another pair a friend gave me years ago just need a total rehab. Maybe I'll surprise him with the refurbed pair.

I've never heard of Koss turning away a set of PRO 4AA. You send them in with a check for $6.00 and they'll fix 'em and send 'em back. Amazing Customer Service in today's world.

Wow, thats good to know. Although my ESP9's are still working as good as new. I got some new cushions for 5 bucks. Maybe I should have just sent them in for a reconditioning instead. Maybe they would take them apart and clean the insides? I heard just a little dust would make them produce static but so far so good.

This is good news. I have a pair of Koss Pro/4X Plus that the vinyl pads have hardened but more so, the foam filler has gotten gummy and makes one heck of a mess when ever I touch them.

I know what they'll do for a pair of PRO 4AA, but I don't see PRO/4X Plus on their list of products. I have no idea what they'll do for those.
You might want to call them at 1-800-USA-KOSS and ask them.

Today I just got back my newly refurbed 4AA's,and about an hour later found a pair NIB at a local thrift ,the Bose Triport headphones for $10.I cant think of two more different philosophies. The Koss were very solid, very heavy, very durable, and the sound was quite detailed. The Bose were extremely lightweight(much more comfortable, actually),very flimsy and fragile, and the build quality was severely lacking, and the sound was kind of hollow and bloated, like those cans that RS would sell back in the 70s for about 20 bucks.
Imagine my surprise when I looked both up,and saw that the list on the Koss is about $100,with a street price usually under $75,while the Bose usually sell right around their list price of $140.I will dispense with the usual Bose bashing, and just say that the Koss is an amazing value.
