KR 3090 receiver how good ?

I have one in my workshop as the utility unit. It does quite well with reasonably efficient speakers. Its tonal quality, clarity and range are very pleasing to me. I'm running it through some 8/4/2" 3-way generic speakers which are probably maxxed out at 60W, but they are great for the little 3090.

I've had a KR-5030 and a KR-6030. Both with more power but I think yours should sound about the same. Probably not too warm and definitely not neutral but regardless the sound should be quite pleasing matched with some Polk Monitors or Advent 1/As (what I had my KRs hooked up to). I would think your KR-3090 would make a real nice backup, or fielded in an office or small bedroom. These KR-XoXo units are very nice.

I have to choose between this 3090 and a Yamaha CR-420 (almost twice pricier) for a bedroom 18 Square meters .The speakers are epos M5 bookshelfs a bit shy in bass.

FWIW, I also had a Yamaha CR-620, the double-sized cousin of the 420 (40WPC@8Ω). It worked just fine, and had been checked over for the typical Yamaha poor solder joints as well as having some new caps in the audio path. I still have the "little" Kenwood and gave away the Yammie to someone having a garage sale, just to get rid of it, with the instructions that if it didn't sell I didn't want it back. I also advised that the seller not keep it unless she really wanted to be underwhelmed.

It's not that I have any kind of super-critical aural acuity or special tone sensitivity, but simply that I didn't like the sound compared to the 20+ Pioneers and Kenwoods in my racks. Your results may vary.

Very useful info for me. Not being a guy-with-the-soldering-iron-in-hand this info about this kind of weak point tipical for yammie is important for me.
I had enough been driven crazy by an amp that I supposed to have this kind of problem that appeared erratically .Nobody discovered where was the wrong thing.
