KSHE classics and St. Louis

Right in the heart of God's country if you ask me, but I guess I'm a little partial to the region.

You will never hear me say i would have rather grown up somewhere else.
There were times back then i wish i was somewhere else that had more to do, but then i would have had more to get into trouble with LoL.

It is very beautiful country, and i like to get back when ever i can.

Oh, did i mention the caves? that was another pass time.
We would hit the caves from Rolla to St. Roberts/Ft. Wood to Dixon. always a cave to explore if you were into that sort of thing.
Swimming at Yancy Mills, Lane springs and various other location down HyWy 63, just not a city night life type of town really.
We swam a lot in Newburg, or down toward Steelville at Birds Nest.
Took a lot of trips to Onondaga Cave and Maramec Caverns, Six Flags and canoeing.
You know, your average small town to do's LoL.

Sorry Sheltie Steve for the thread jack, somethings just bring back memories.

Yeah,
Rolla is a small town, unless you like to hunt, fish or raise cattle, there is really nothing to do.
UMR almost doubles the population LoL, but if you want a nice quit town to raise a family, it does offer a decent education.
My ex brother-n-law studied mechanical drafting at UMR, and i hear their mining programs are the best in the nation.

Hence, my moniker.

One of our flagship FM stations in St. Louis, KSHE, was famous for its freeform dj programming for years, and they slowly developed a cadre of obscure, strange, longish, wide ranging, and recognizable deep cuts from a multitude of artists that they termed "KSHE classics." While not exclusive to St. Louis, forty years of being branded as their classics effectively has made it identified as such.

In the region, these albums normally are priced rather high in collectors' hands, and around $20 at the record stores that still stock used albums.

It was a good day yesterday, as I hit a yard sale that had a large number(over 300) of unplayed open stock albums from a former dj. Normally I don't touch albums any more, but the large number of unplayed KSHE classics lured me like a moth to a flame.

REAL ROCK RADIO - KSHE 95

Nice grab you got. Lake, UFO, Starcastle are just a few of the bands I came to know through KSHE. I would also remember, during my HS years growing upin S. IL, that on Friday nights KSHE would play Boz Scagg's "Loan Me A Dime" @ 11:45p and that I would need to be home before the end of the song (curfews back then). That is when Busch beer was good.

Is Euclid Records still around?

Yah, Euclid just moved to downtown Webster Groves. Just bought a Captain Fantastic album there, but it turned out to be scratched to hell.

All sweet retreats. Looks like we need to start an Ozark Outdoors thread. Certainly no place to go if your looking for city life, but hey, STL is just up the road.

There is way to much fun in Missouri to list in here LoL.

You have some amazing vinyl scores right there, WOW! As mentioned before, Triumvirat's Spartacus (The Sweetest Sound of Liberty is my favorite track on that one), I also spy Lake's Paradise Island, Gamma 1...all in mint condition?, WOW is all I can say!

Just early 70s to early 80s rock. If you want jazz, classical, blues, and the more esoteric stuff, you should start showing up at our GAS gatherings. There are some guys with 10 to 20k albums.

I was invited to Gateway Audio Society gatherings a while back out in Washington...but I never made it out. I may some day.

Speaking of KSHE...you guys remember those KSHE Kite Fly's and you guys remember that free concert by RUSH in Forrest Park with KSHE being a sponser, before RUSH made it big?
And how many of you guys had a KSHE PIG (sweat meat) Belt buckle back in the day?

Just before my start time in St. Louis. BTW, here is a little known fact about Sweetmeat - he is actually pilfered bacon!

Somewhere I still have a stack of "The Pig and the Pope" stickers from JPII's visit while I was in college. Currently I'm down at the other end of 44.

I'll never forget when the new management tried to take the joint out of Sweetmeat's mouth. Ratings dropped like trousers at a whore house, and our beloved piggie was quickly restored. I just love free market forces.

New to the forum, and just came across this thread! I see Children of the Sun in there. I have the Revisited on vinyl. Grew up listening to KSHE!

When I was in the Marines in the 80s it was common for guys to write the call letters on walls in public places. That was how I first learnfrom ed of KSHE. It was interesting to see where folks were from by their favorite radio station. Mine was WWCT Peoria Ill.

I haven't been to Euclid or Vintage Vinyl in years. Now that I'm back into vinyl, I need to make a trip. Anyone been recently...how is the selection?

I was in Vintage Vinyl about a week ago - Never fails, I always find a reason to give them $ 40 or so.

Decent selection in both the rock and jazz aisles and they had several racks up front priced at $ 2.00 each...

Enjoyed listening to the staff take turns spinning tunes and giving each other a hard time. Was a little like a real life "High Fidelity". Next time I'm in St Louis I'll hit Euclid. Forgot about that place.
