Kt66 Info Wanted

Hi All..I've been happily listening to my W5M's using original grey glass Genalex KT66 tubes. I would like to purchase an extra set of tubes and was wondering if anyone knows which (or if any) of the new KT66's manufactured sound anything close to the originals. I'm guessing not since the originals are quite abit more expensive but I'd like to hear some opinions on what sounds good :yes:

I use smokeglass GEC KT66's in my Electrohomes. Bought a quad of Penta Labs KT66 from Dougs Tubes, I like em! :thmbsp:
 
Thanks for the response..Has anyone tried and compared the differences in sound Between the Russian and Chinese variations?
 
BOLLY...Love those Electrohomes. Must be pretty rare as I've never seen one for sale...let alone two! Sure look nice :thmbsp: Are you still using the Tannoy golds with them? Bet they sound great with a good source. :yes: Thats one system I'd love to give a listen to...

If the new Russian ones sound anything like the old Groove Tubes Russian KT66s, they will be good. I liked the Chinese tubes, too. Neither of them lasted long running at max dissipation 2 hours a day in my Craftsmen 500as, however. I went through a quad every 6-9 months. I'm confident the newest Russian and Chinese ones are better than what I had been using a few years ago. My ca. 2003 Chinese KT66s turned brown inside and looked awful after 6 months, but my 2006 set held up great.

Oooh, I'd love to hear your thoughts/impressions on your Heathkit W5M!
Just two weeks ago, I did a gear swap with a very nice gentleman and I acquired a BEAUTIFUL (physical looking) W5M complete with it's cage! My
W5M also has the original Genalex KT 66 Gold Lions! I have not had a chance to have the unit tested but will hopefully do so soon. Man, no doubt about it, the W5M sure is one IMPRESSIVE looking Amp. I sure hope it'll sound as sweeet as it looks! I plan to use my W5M in a decicated MONO system. Oooh Ven, what Speakers (and Preamp) are you using ? Might you have a suggestion for a good Preamp for use with the Heathkit W5M ? Please keep us posted Ven on the Tube situation. Enjoy!
