Lafayette LR-5555A LR-3030 flicker before turn on

I have both a Lafayette LR-5555A and LR-3030. Before they will turn on and work, the light on it will flicker for 5-30 seconds and the speakers will crackle. It also sounds like the relay(s) are switching on and off during this time. Any idea what is wrong? My friend's LR-3030A doesn't have this problem as of now.

I tried cleaning the power switch with tuner cleaner, it started up fine the first time, but back to the same now. I will try using alcohol then DeOxit if I go out to buy some.
 
You can try the alcohol and de-oxit method. Just remember to work the switch for a good minute or so after eash application, and wait a few hours to let the switch dry out. alcohol first, let it dry out, then de-oxit last

Chances are this will only be a temporary fix, but give it a try.
