Hello,
I just bought an Ebay LR-5555a and it will need some repair. Owner says the power flickers for a few seconds before it comes on. Then he said it makes a few pops before it worms up and then supposedly works fine. If anyone has an idea what that might be that would be great.
Anyway the reason for the post is I went to HiFi engine and downloaded what they had but there was no parts list. Can anyone help me with one?

Thanks

Common signs of a dirty/ failing power switch.

555A or 5555A?
The 5555 (and others in that series, 1515, 2020, 3030, 9090) are known for having problems with the combined power switch/speaker selector.
Not sure about the 555A (if it even exists).

Sorry LR-5555A,
Sorry, this is what the ad said. I should have it within the week.

The problem is when powering it on the lights will flash on and off for a few seconds and then will stay on. Also when playing on any input, it will have some random popping sound for a few seconds and the will go away. After the popping noise, it plays and sound great. I hope some one can fix it because it is a very beautiful receiver. It is being sold for parts or repair only.

Yep, those are symptoms of a arching power switch.

IF it is the power switch which is a known weak link, cleaning (scuffing/sanding) the contacts MIGHT give some relief though it could happen again.
Some people have reported there are two sets of contacts and advise switching them.
Other methods are a bit more involved and use devices to take the load off the switch.
Here's thread (long, technical) about the specific Lafayette power switch problem and how to "fix" it...

My LR-120DB does not have the known bad Lafayette power/speaker select switch but mine did go bad as well, I had a tech jump the switch so it is always in the "on" position and I control it with a power cord that has an on/off switch as part if the cord. Some people use a surge protection type power strip to accomplish the task.

Thanks for the info and the link. Cannot wait to get it and start the diagnostic process. I have read good things about this receiver and a local record shop has had one playing non stop for the last three years.
If anyone has a link for the parts list that would be great. I will post pictures when I receive it.
Cheers

Update, got the receiver and it is in perfect condition cosmetically. It works fine but when you turn it on the lights flicker for a few seconds and then all seems to be fine. Any idea why or how to fix that? I have started the recapping and will posts pictures tomorrow.

Bypass or clean the power switch.

Forgot to take pictures, but I got quite a few more capacitors replaced and Deoxit on the power control knob and to my amazement it powers up immediately with no flickering of the lights now. I doubt it was in the capacitor upgrade, more than likely the Deoxit.

Intermittent contact in the power switch making the receiver flicker on and off untill the contacts finally made a solid connection. Deoxiting it cleaned the contacts enough to fix it, though I reccomend taking the switch apart to clean, some contact cleaners are flammable and the power switch, switches a lot of current.
