Large Advents on CT CL

How difficult is replacing the caps?

Never done them, but if not too difficult I might try at some point.

It's much easier than refoaming (which is not that hard to begin with).
Just be careful-that's it.

Wouldn't it be more efficient to comment on the speakers that wouldn't be good econowave candidates?
Really -- they guy has just barely listened to the speakers, the tweeters are fine, and he likes them, and already with the econowave suggestion?
Don't mean to be cranky, and certainly a speaker with bad tweeters or a lousy high end might be a good candidate, but many people like the differing personalities of speakers, and if they are all econowaves, not only is that personality lost, but so is much of the history. And, perversely, given that econowaves quite possibly are better (in an absolute sense) than the original tweeter, and much more expensive than leaving it alone, the value of the speaker may be less after the conversion.

Relax- it was just a thought. He can do with the speaker what ever he chooses-if you own a vintage speaker and want to modify-or not- you have no need to explain yourself-even if you want to pour gas on it and burn it.
If some else doesn't like it- well they need to worry less about what others do to their vintage pieces- and worry about their own collection.
Those who worry about the so called dwindeling suppy of non Econowaved large Advents (and let's be honest- they made alot of these-and I think it safe to say 99% ARE NOT econowaved)-well if you that worried about them- buy them all up, and sell them under a contract that you can't modify them-otherwise your argument is just bitching-and please save it.

I think the Advents sound fine. I can imagine that a recap would improve them.
I can not find too much information but once I do I will give it a shot. Likely will start with one of my currently non functional BA 150/II.

They sound good too. Overall they might be the winners, but with some music -especially CDs- the Advents sound pretty good. I just like all these speakers. Partially because my ears might not be discriminative enough...
