Hey all,

Is it me or does anyone else have a copy of Zeppelin III that sounds very flat? My copy is an Atlantic SD 7201. Im listening to it now and it just seems to lack the kick that my other Zeppelin albums have.

Am I crazy?

My copy of LZIII went missing many moons ago in a box that walked away during a move. I wish I still had it.

Can't give an answer to your question

funny - I thought the cd sounded flat ,thats my fav led zep lp , the vinyl copy I have is quite old and a few crackles here and there but sounds warm

hmmm..

the more i listen to it I think it might just be the way the copy was handled. I bought it off ebay a few years ago. It is not in great condition, I would say Good condition. Side 2 sounds a lot better than side 1.

By the way how underrated is Zeppelin III?? daam this is a good album. I always feel like III is kind of the forgotten Zep album.

Celebration Day is a lost classic

Have you ever given it a proper cleaning?

Led Zep LPs are a crapshoot.

The III CD, be it the "produced by Jimmy Page" CD or "Remastered by Jimmy Page" CD is not so hot. The original, Barry Diament mastered CD did not use the original tapes. It is not bad. The remastered by Jimmy and George Marino used the masters but is a tad hot/trebly. Either is OK in my book, although I give the nod to the original.

As for the III LP, there are many more bad pressings than good pressings. Look for an original with "do what thou wilt" etched in the deadwax. The best pressing, IMO, is the Classic Records re-issue on heavy vinyl, but those are pricey an out-of-print. I've got one and love it. Avoid SD 19128 later pressings.

Yours is an early pressing, so you may want to upgrade to some vinyl in better condition.

What do you mean by deadwax? is that the spot where you hold it in the light you can make out writing and what look like serial numbers?

Yes. The blank groove between the last song and the label.

The quote is from Aleister Crowley - an occult dude of whom Jimmy Page was a fan.

Also - a III with "RL" in the deadwax (Robert Ludwig) should be a keeper.

Have fun.

Agree wholeheartedly on both counts.

I bought a pristine Jap. pressing for $30, comes w/poster & lyric sheet:banana:

Let us know how it sounds.

I have a Japanese (Warner-Pioneer Corporation) 45 rpm 7" of "Immigrant Song" b/w "Hey, Hey What Can I Do" and it is, hands down, the most astonishing version of either song.

did robert ludwig master "III"? i thought he only mastered "II", and "houses...". if he did "III" it'll have to go on my list.

ok, i looked at mine and it says "pissoff spideyjack ya wanker" in the deadwax.

no really it says "do what thou wilts" i bought this in a salvation army probably 20 years ago, sounds good, but i got to be in the right mood.
