hmmm..
the more i listen to it I think it might just be the way the copy was handled. I bought it off ebay a few years ago. It is not in great condition, I would say Good condition. Side 2 sounds a lot better than side 1.
Have you ever given it a proper cleaning?
Led Zep LPs are a crapshoot.
The III CD, be it the "produced by Jimmy Page" CD or "Remastered by Jimmy Page" CD is not so hot. The original, Barry Diament mastered CD did not use the original tapes. It is not bad. The remastered by Jimmy and George Marino used the masters but is a tad hot/trebly. Either is OK in my book, although I give the nod to the original.
As for the III LP, there are many more bad pressings than good pressings. Look for an original with "do what thou wilt" etched in the deadwax. The best pressing, IMO, is the Classic Records re-issue on heavy vinyl, but those are pricey an out-of-print. I've got one and love it. Avoid SD 19128 later pressings.
Yours is an early pressing, so you may want to upgrade to some vinyl in better condition.

What do you mean by deadwax? is that the spot where you hold it in the light you can make out writing and what look like serial numbers?
yah I have cleaned it with Gruv Glide
Yes. The blank groove between the last song and the label.
The quote is from Aleister Crowley - an occult dude of whom Jimmy Page was a fan.
Also - a III with "RL" in the deadwax (Robert Ludwig) should be a keeper.
Have fun.

I have a Japanese (Warner-Pioneer Corporation) 45 rpm 7" of "Immigrant Song" b/w "Hey, Hey What Can I Do" and it is, hands down, the most astonishing version of either song.
