Legit Source for MPSu52 Transistor

I"m currently working on a Advent 300 and the transistor Q401, MPS U52, leads broke off. I've been looking for a replacement and found a source called AmericanMicrosemi.com He sells them for $5.95 each and has 110 in stock. I question the legitimacy of these. I think they are Chinese knock offs. Has anyone done business with Sean at American Microsemi and do you think theses are legit or not. I understand these are very had to find so I question this sellers product.
Thanks for your opinions

AmericanMicrosemi

I can't speak for this particular part, but I'm pretty sure I've used AmericanMicrosemi before with no complaint. It would be an unusual part to counterfeit, since it's an oddball package by contemporary standards.

I might use a CEN-U56, which has a sorta-kinda "heritage" relationship to the Motorola series of "miniwatt" parts, and is available from first-tier suppliers. The Central Semi part is more or less a TO-202 case, so it has a larger tab than the Motorola, and has a similar lead frame to a TO-220, so you might need to slightly enlarge the circuit board holes. One thing the Central part does offer is a base-in-the-middle lead configuration like the Motorola, which can be a help in mounting.

But this isn't a critical part - pretty much any PNP silicon transistor with a current capability of an amp or so, and a power capability of around a watt, will do.
