Lexicon CP-3 for system master volume control

My question? I have been using a nice older Lexicon CP-3 surround processor with two integrated amps that have there own volume control looping them to the Lexicon that function as the main system volume control. Am I safe to volume down the Lexicon to zero, bring the two integrated amps volume way up to maximize the amps power and then bring up the Lexicons volume to achieve the systems listening volume with out stressing the two intergrated amps? I am thinking now the two integrated amps volume controls are functioning as gain controls and the amps should be safe? :scratch2: The two integrated amps are #1 Pioneer A9, #2 Denon AVR 700V. :music:
