List the top 3 best sounding speakers you have ever owned.

1) Mirage M1
2) ESS Trans-Static I
3) Infinity Monitor

All three are amazing local finds. The Mirage just make me want to listen more and more. The ESS and Infinity sound great and uniquely their own because of the different tweeters in each.

I garbage picked one Boston Acoustics A100 and re-foamed it, I've been looking for a partner and finally bought a single on Ebay, for $25.00 I must say I'm impressed with the sound. I've got them hooked up to my computer and t.v. via toslink to Marantz SR7500 in my computer room.

Non-fatiguing, great for back round streaming music.

1) Tannoy Cheviot II's w/3128 drivers
2) KEF 104aB's - have had 2 pair both FANTASTIC
3) Dynaco A40XL - quite new to me but the tweeters just sing...

All in the same house/listening room:

1. AR LSTs/ NYAL Moscode 600 power amp/Conrad Johnson PV5 preamp

2. Nestorovic 5AS Mcintosh 7270 power amp/Mc C34 preamp

Third? maybe the Thiel CS2 or ADS 810s. They sounded quite different but both were appealing in their own way being driven by any of several different amps I was going through at the time.

1. Infinity RS-II, simply fantastic speakers (below)

2. Infinity RS-IIIa

3. Nothing worth mentioning that would compare to the above two (I am relatively new to this hobby, and the college dorm / teenage speakers, although fantastic sounding then, do not really qualify in hindsight :) )...

Pioneer DSS-9 - Spec system in medium size room
Acoustic Research AR90 - Spec system in large room
DCM Time Frame TF-700 - Adcom system in large room

Oh yes. a #4 would definitely be a DCM Time Frame 500. I like the vifa D19 highs better than the TW1, though. The TW just had this fullness in the mids and bass with a great power response across the spectrum.

I agree with this! My recent custom Morel 3 ways are in the top best 3 I have owned, they are the best all cone driver set up I have owned for sure. My Altec custom 19's being the best horn/hybrid system. IF you dabble long enough and learn enough lessons.... this is quite possible!
DC

Do you have the specs/dimensions of your Morel 3-way's?

Given the number of times i have seen Dahlquist DQ-10's listed really makes me wonder.

Would I be foolish to sell these things? Do I owe it to myself and the speakers to give them some love? I could update the crossovers and mirror image them. Try to see what these things are truly capable of.

B&W 801 - modified B&k 140 mono amps-Conrad Johnson pv7

Audio Concepts Sapphire ll /w subs- McIntosh 2100

DCM Timeframe

The crossover upgrade is cheap and worthwhile. Give it a shot. Probably won't cost you more than 30 bucks in caps if you go with Erse's.

AR 3 thrift store big score at $10/pair

Well i love my AR 3 sound amazing and was very cheap...

I also get a free Yamaha M40 power amp listed Free on my local
area. You may think i am lucky but i have been faith full in God
word. Give and you will reap more...

In the close to 40 years I have really only owned two speakers.

1977, B&W DM4's, had them modded into Spendor cabinets for better base. Was probably a bad move looking back. After they got overdriven at a party I wasn't even at ......

About 1990 something, Rega Jura 2's. Listening to them now. Going to get them recapped soon.

and coming up, well I'm auditioning several different ones at the moment, lets see what happens.

Top 3 speakers

I'm not asking for the best you have heard, but the top 3 in order that sounded the best in your own personnel residence.

Also with each entry, please describe the speakers living environment, EX. (Size of room, and the Amp you used to power it), more details to the situation are always welcome. If you got pictures, post them. Pictures are always a plus.

I started with a pair of Polk 7b's powered by a Marantz SR 6000 receiver. I recently purchased an Onkyo TX DS 696 receiver I'm using as a preamp with an Adcom GFA 5500 amp. I just replaced the 7b's with a pair of Polk Monitor 12 Series 2 speakers. I was not totally satisfied with the change until I added a pair of Monster M series speaker cables. What a difference !
I sold the Marantz and kept the polk 7b's. I also bought a pair of Polk Monitor 5's, so I now have 3 sets of Polks. Love them.
I also added a small Yamaha subwoofer. This is my secondary setup in a small room and is being used just for 2 channel stereo.
