I think I found Tube Nirvana ! LOL

Long story short. This little preamp does impart that tube sound I had been looking for. :)

I have a laptop as a streamer connected to a Douk Audio Hi Fi P1 pre amp/dac via a USB cable and then the Little Bear since it has only RCA. The Little Bear connects to a Haffler SE-120 Power Amp. The Amp to JM Lab towers.

There seem to be many different Little Bears around so I posted a link.

I took a leap of faith in buying this preamp since the Douk P1 doesn't really sound like a tube pre, at least to my ears.

Maybe but the tubes are doing something...
Yeah, 6A2 is a pentagrid tube, so should have a lot of gain, even at low voltage. You wouldn't use it for a RIAA stage thou, too noisy. Plus you need more than one pentode type tube per channel for a phono stage.

I don't know much about tubes so I was wondering how the whole thing works with a 12v wall wart.

BTW I'm not using it as a phono pre.

There's probably a voltage doubler for the tubes, so there's at least 20 volts across them. Some tubes work ok at low voltages, some don't.

Hey, is there any point in rolling these tubes ?

The larger 6E2 ones have a fluorescent VU vertical display strip on them....

I was going to say no, but I could be wrong. Maybe try replacing the 6A2 tubes with an equivalent.

I'll have a look around a bit later. Dinners ready and then I have to take the dog out.

BTW I rolled the tubes on the Douk P1 Hi-Fi pre,dac and thought I heard a slight difference.

Gotta love that placebo effect. ;)
