Little League World Series

I just finished watching the Little League World Series. The US team from Georgia beat Japan. It was a close game that went into extra innings, with a walk-off home run by the US to win the game. Great performance by both teams.

Since the game went over time, they (ABC) opted not to show any of the post-game interviews or awards. Instead, they went to an Ahmad Rashad program about the upcoming NBA basketball season, followed by a paid advertisement program. Chasing the almighty dollar.

As a side note, the father of one of the players asked his boss for time off in order to attend the playoff and series games. His boss told him he'd better get his priorities straight, and fired him. They broadcast this last week, and he's been offered a bunch of jobs by fans in his area. (TV reporter heresay)

Sort of takes some of the fun out of it, doesn't it!

Sounds to me like he got his priorities straight and made the right choice.

Another couple days at work VS. Once in a lifetime chance to watch your son play in the game of his life.

Seems like an easy choice to me.

I agree, I'd have to tell the old boss to get HIS priorities straight, & figure out what good company relations means. I missed the game, but heard about it. Big congrats to the kids from Georgia! :thmbsp:
 
I work with the coach of the Marshfield Mass team that played for the Cal Ripken league, and went on to compete nationwide.

Unfortunately they didn't end up the national top team, but something's gotta be said for a team that goes that far.

Kudos to the Cal Ripken league players and the other little-league league players who put so much time and dedication into this last season.

In the end, despite who gets the trophy and ribbons at the end of the games, at the end of the day they are all victors.

Maybe the father is a shitbum and the boss was looking to run his ass anyway.

Even the most miserable prick I worked for would've given a good hand time off for something like this.
 
Yeah, We would just as soon watch the Little League as the Pros... At least I know the kids are playing for love, not money. :tresbon:

IIRC, this is two years in a row for a Georgia team, isn't it?

That may be so.

So the boss doesn't have the nards to can the guy on work performance, but instead lays a trip on the kid that doing something productive like playing baseball, instead of tagging or doing drugs, is going to get his dad fired.

That's real class, regardless of what kind of employee the father was.
