Looking for information Byston 470

I'm looking for information (price and production date etc.) and opinions on the Bryston series 70 470 monoblock amplifier. It’s a 70volt 250Watt monoblock distribution amplifier but that’s all I know. I was also curious if it would make a good sub amp. Thanks

The amp MSRP is $1200, used is $700. and from 1992 to present is the manufacturing date.

Although I'm not familiar with this Bryston, your post says it's a 70v amp. Does it also have standard outputs?

The 70v amps were designed for multiple distributed speaker installations, where each speaker has a transformer to convert the 70v to the input needed for that speaker.

All the distributed audio 70v amps I am familiar with remove the low freqs (below 70Hz or so) due to the speakers normally used (we're talking background office and elevators here) and the extra cost of using speaker transformers capable of handling low freqs. This is NOT done on the 4 or 8 ohm outputs if the amp is supplied with them.

The commercial amps I am familiar with make fine audio amps using their alternate (non-70v) ouput connectors. Crown is an example that comes to mind.

OK, just checked the Bryston site- there is a standard 8 ohm output prior to the 70v transformer.

According to their site, the circuitry or the amp is identical to their stereo amps, so should make some fine sounds.
